Where do people come up with this stuff?

Re: Where do people come up with this stuff?

  • When I was a bank teller the Johnson family all shared a bank account.  One customer on the account was Harry Johnson.  We actually had a list of unusual or funny names. Another was Female pronounced femme-all-a.  Her mom liked the name the doctor gave her.

I saw female (fe-mall-eh) and male (mall-eh) a lot when I was a med student on Ob in southern Virginia. Some Hispanic parents just assumed we named their babies for them and decided to keep it.

  • I used to work in customer service and a lady's name was Candy Sexton.

Also, at my work now in a NICU, some parents (drug parents) wanted to name their child "Inthew" like "in there" without the "r". They wanted to name him this because the whole pregnancy the father would refer to the baby "in there" (as in, in the mom's belly) and he couldn't say his "R's".
  • There's a girl who lives in my area named Araya Sunshine (A ray of sunshine). One of the oddest names I've come across but at least it's cheery.

I feel like La-a is an urban legend or something. Everyone knows someone who knows someone with this name or they've heard about some one with this name. But has anybody REALLY actually met the infamous La-a???

Indeed. One of the infamous works at the Salt Lake City VA.

  • I also went to uni with a girl named prairie. While we were there she had a daughter she named meadow

I had a student named (spelled differently to protect from a Google search) Cajun Hot.

. One year I had a student whose dad was Johnny Joh.n (first name then last name) and another whose dad was Dav.e Davids. So weird to have them in one year.

My friend that works at the hospital as a director has had patients named "Baby Boy" due to them leaving the hospital without their parents naming them, then never formally doing it.

Not a weird name, but I went to school with a boy who had six brothers and all seven of the boys were named Larry.
  • I always thought the same first and last names were weird... Like I went to school with an Aaron Aaron. Or I've seen a few Stephen Stephens.
  • And I know a Jerome Jerome
  • I knew a girl named Sunday. Her mother lost a bet and had to name her Sunday

My sister's coworker gave their child the middle name "Danger". So yes, he can officially say that Danger is his middle name
  • I work at a call center where you have to spell the names back to the caller. Guy said his name was johnny. I tried johnny, johnnie, jonny, etc before finally asking. Jon-e.
  • oh and I have a coworker whose sister's name is Swayze Grey. She didn't even get the Dirty Dancing reference. Just liked how it sounded.
