Second time c-section mommy

Anyone else? I'm panicking thinking of not being able to drive and my other son right in the beginning of the school year. Worried about Halloween and his parade and taking him trick or treating. Anyone have any ideas of how to recover and still be a good mommy to both children?

Re: Second time c-section mommy

  • I'm having my rcs on Oct 1. I'll have a little time before Halloween, but yes, that is one of my concerns, too. My husband fortunately has more leave than he knows what to do with, so he'll take at least a month off. When are we cleared to drive? 6 weeks? I was going to ask at my next appt. My daughter will need to get to/from school 3 days a week, so we may need to figure something out. I'm not worried about the surgery, just everything afterwards!

  • @aah1013 yes 6 weeks! Unfortunately my hubby new at his job and NO time off yet
  • 6 weeks? I thought it was 2!

I'm not sure yet if I will have a RCS or a VBAC, but there's no way I can go 6 weeks without leaving the house, especially with a 2-year old.

  • My recovery from my 2nd c-section was not nearly as bad as my first. I was up and doing much more within the first week the 2nd time around. Have you tried the compression underwear? I found that they helped a lot.

I totally get your anxiety! I'm so sorry about your husband's leave situation. How old is your first? My daughter just turned 3 and I feel like she'll be a pretty big help. There will still, obviously, be some transition time, but I think she "gets it" more than she would have a year ago. I'm doing a lot of prep work with her on do's and don'ts after baby arrives. She knows I'll have a "boo-boo" and won't be able to pick her up, but we can cuddle as much as she wants on the couch. I've already started making her climb into her car seat independently. I've changed up our morning routine a little so that it will limit my trips up and down the stairs when baby gets here. I'm just trying to do what I can to make changes before baby, so it doesn't seem like the changes are because of baby.

@MamaOwl15, I'm pretty sure it's more than 2 weeks, unfortunately. I have an appt tomorrow and will ask. I agree, it will be hard to be essentially trapped in the house!

I have NEVER heard of waiting 6 weeks to drive. It's more like 2 or when you are off pain meds.

I hope this is true! I just feel like with my first one it was much longer. Hopefully my doctor will give me an answer more conducive to being a mom of 2. Six weeks will feel like an eternity!

  • I was told with my first that you can drive as soon as your off the pain meds. I am nervous about how is going to go with a 2 year old, there are just some things he is too young to understand.
  • I wasn't allowed to drive till my first post partum appointment at 6 weeks, when he removed my stitches. I was told it wasn't about my ability to drive due to drugs, but because of the trauma my body had been through, and worried if I slammed on the brakes, I could hurt my incision. But my doctor was a quack, so who knows.

If they told me I could drive when I was off my pain meds, I could have driven myself home from the hospital.

I am going to ask my new doctor how he feels about it at my next appointment though. DD will start preschool in a few weeks, and dropping her off, picking her up, at 8 am and 11 am, 4 days a week, will be a lot of DH for a full 6 weeks. My mother will be here for 2 weeks, and she can do it, but after that, we'll be on our own.

I am very worried about my recovery. I had a difficult time just getting in and out of bed for months, because our bed was so high. And the breast feeding every 2 hours, no sleep, its going to be tough with a 4 year old that doesn't nap. So I think I'm more concerned about juggling both kids, and a c-section, that the actual recovery from the c-section (which I never felt was all that bad).

  • That's what I'm more concerned with too, juggling a 7 year olds busy schedule and not supposed to be driving...I'm sure first two weeks will have help but after that it's going to be tough! Good luck mommas!
  • I'm in the same boat with my two year old. Luckily I'll have my mom here for about a month. I'm not sure how we're supposed to do simple things like lift LO into her carseat. She can't just climb up there yet.

Did anyone get a band for around the belly last time? Mine was an emergency csection so I hadn't researched and didn't know they existed. With this one I think is like one but have no idea what to get.
