  • I had an epi and spinal, I don't think I really felt either. Compared to everything that's going on, it'll be ok. @carlymarie021 Yes you do get a catheter, you can't get up after the epi, but they do it after the epi kicks in so u can't feel it.

@amberrmariee20 a UTI sounds like the last thing you want to be dealing with at that time! I had a few traumatizing catheter experiences at a urologist a few years back. I might be peeing on the table too @midge519 !
  • I consider myself to be literally one of the scariest people on the planet.  I was petrified of the epidural, but I knew I wanted it just in case the pain became too unbearable.  I literally waited until the last minute to get one.  But I didn't feel a thing other than the doctor pushing on my back.  Don't worry and stress yourself out too much.  You will do just fine.

  • I had an epidural with my first labor. It wasn't for me. I don't even remember if it hurt going in. And it definitely didn't hurt more than contractions at that point. I had pitocin with my first two but nothing for pain with #2 so it is possible. I used deep breathing, humming, focused on an object, and rocked for pain relief. I really don't think I had a catheter when I had an epidural but I do remember saying I thought I peed myself and they had to change bed pads. ..
  • I am going unmedicated.  I have a high tolerance for pain and have been preparing myself mentally and physically.  I also like the idea of being free to move around during labor.  My doctor is for the epidural but has agreed to support my decision to labor naturally.

  • I think the best way to avoid getting pit is try to labor at home as much as possible.  Basically, ignore early labor.  I plan on baking a birthday cake for my boy during early labor lol

I wish you luck! I could have done it without pitocin. That's all I wanted...stupid gd.

  • You can do it naturally! Do a lot of research and believe in yourself. I am also more afraid of the epidural than of natural labor. See if you can take a natural childbirth class.

I'm more freaked out by the urethra catheter than the actual epidural. Do they place that before or after the epi?

My hospital didn't leave a catheter to just hang out during labor. I had to call the nurse every time I had to pee.
