36 week ultrasound?

Is anyone scheduled for a 36 week ultrasound? A friend has one scheduled, she said "36 week ultrasound" like it was just a normally scheduled milestone but she has had a rougher pregnancy than I have and I'm not sure if it really is something everyone gets or if they are keeping a closer eye on her.

It just depends on the circumstance and OB. I had a growth scan at 30 and 38 weeks, but everybody is different.

  • My ob just told me I won't get another one.. :( haven't had one since 22 weeks.
  • My ob said I would get one at 36 weeks if there was any question about baby's position or if my bp got any higher than it was at 34 weeks.
  • I'm having one at my next doctor appointment. My ob does one near the end to get a sense of position and potential size (though they aren't really accurate for that and he knows this). He thinks I'm measuring two weeks ahead, so he wants to see what's going on.

  • I have one this week..33 weeks due to fundal height being 38 weeks. I am also schedule weekly starting at 36 weeks due to age.

  • My ob doesn't do one after 20 weeks unless there appears to be a need. This is my third and with both my previous at 39 weeks I was having no progression to labor and since I am petite had gained a good amount she she did end up doing an ultrasound to determine if anything needed to be done to address delivery. In both cases the babies were showing close to 9 lbs. this time around, since I've had 2 previous csection and am at risk for rupture she has told me I will have one at 36 weeks to check on a delivery at 39 weeks.
  • My ob doesn't do one after 20 weeks unless there's an issue
  • I have had one scheduled for 36 weeks for months now. Dr says they just like to get a sense of size and position, although she's pretty sure from feeling around, that he has already flipped. Either way, I'm excited to see him one more time before he gets here!

I have one scheduled for 36ish weeks too. Then I believe after that I'll be going in to the doctor every week after that for the last month. I can't believe it's almost time!
  • My ob only schedules one of there is a question on size or position.
  • I'm not scheduled for one but my next appointment will be 36 weeks and they said they may send me for one if they don't have a clearer idea of her position.
  • I haven't had one since around 19 weeks. Wondering when I'll have another one. I want to see my baby!!
  • I'm high risk but I have at least one ultra sound a week. This week I have two. They just measure size, position and fluid levels. If baby is doing something cute I get a printed pic.

Out of every appointment I've had, I didn't have one done on 2 separate occasions. Otherwise I've had one at every appointment this entire pregnancy. I think some doctors are just different
  • I have one at 37 weeks for growth because he was small at 30 weeks, just depends on what's necessary!
  • Like pp have said I have one at 37 to determine position and size. I haven't had one since 20 weeks and just want to see his face one more time before he gets here!
  • I have one scheduled for Thursday. My dr does one initially, one at 20 weeks, and one at 32 weeks.
  • I haven't had one since 20 weeks and won't have another unless they can't determine baby's position at 36 weeks, my fundal height is off by quite a bit, or if I reach my due date and baby hasn't come yet.
  • I have had 2 ultrasounds a month since I was 9 weeks along and even more frequent now that I'm 32. But it's only because I am pregnant with multiples and they must keep a close watch on their growth. Until I read this post I assumed that moms of singletons got one per month.. Yall are much more patient than I am. I could not imagine waiting so long between ultrasounds! :/
  • I just had an ultrasound at my last doctors visit. My doctor does one at 34 weeks to make sure that baby is head down. Quick and easy.
  • Yes, mine is scheduled for 36 weeks. My doctor's office automatically does this to check approximate size and confirm position of the baby leading up to delivery. I can't wait! I have no idea what she weighs as I haven't had one with the OB's office since 19 weeks. I did have an elective 3D at 28 weeks but the tech never mentioned approximate size and I didn't ask as I wasn't sure if they tell you that stuff. All I know is I've been measuring right on point with my fundal height, but I'm anxious to see her again and get an approx weight!!
  • I'm getting one at 36 weeks. I have gestational diabetes though. I was told it's a normal growth scan that would be done anyway but I know with mine they're also concerned about babies size due to the GD.

  • I've had one every 4 weeks since 24. So I'm having another at 36, this is purely because I'm on medication for my blood pressure and they just have to keep an eye on babys growth x
  • I'm having another one tomorrow at 33 weeks, only to check where my placenta is since at 20 weeks it was low lying. After that I don't think I will have another one since she said this one will determine whether they want to have a scheduled c-section or not.
  • I didn't have one with DS1, but since he was 9.5lbs over a week early and me being petite, the doctor doesn't want to risk me having to deliver a baby bigger than him. So they're doing a scan at 36 weeks to check on size. Otherwise, I don't think I'd have one. It's interesting how different every OB seems to handle ultrasounds.
  • I have one on Thursday (holy cow I will be almost 35 weeks!). They are checking on me because of placenta previa, and gestational diabetes. So excited to see my little guy again!

  • My ob said I won't be having another, I haven't had one since 20 weeks; i have had a complication free pregnancy (knock on wood). He said us this far along can be pretty inaccurate as far as measuring.
  • I think it varies greatly by practice. My practice does one at 36 weeks to check the growth, position, and anything else they want to peek at. I will also be induced, so this gives them a better idea if babe is good and ready or not.

  • I've had so many.... I had one at 30 weeks due to hypothyroidism, 32 weeks due to GD... I think I was supposed to have one at 34 weeks too, but another OB in the practice saw me and did not order it, but she said every two weeks until the end - so I am guessing I will at 36 and 38, as well. My baby (I know it's not always accurate) has been running a little on the small average side, but they still want to make sure he isn't going to be huge... I don't think he will be and honestly, I never thought I'd say this - but I don't want any more ultrasounds. They make me anxious that something is going to be wrong and I worry about how the ultrasounds affect the baby.

  • I have one today and I'm 34w4d. I have a 3D US tomorrow. Think it just all depends on your OB. The umbilical cord is right in front of my baby's face so they are trying to monitor my fluids.
  • My OB is in the annex of the hospital, I've had what they call "bedside" scans in the exam room at the first 2 appointments, and 2 ordered ultrasounds down in the radiology department. (17 and 30 weeks, second one was 3D). He will do another bedside scan at 36 weeks when he starts cervical checks. Zero complications.. I think it just varies by practice!
  • My clinic does one at 36 weeks to check the baby's position and size, and they also look at the placenta - my OB said that problems with the placenta can start around that time. I haven't had any complications during my pregnancy and am considered low risk. I'm happy to have one last look before the big day!

  • My OB doesn't do one after the 20 week anatomy scan. Since I have GD, I had one done at 32 weeks. I have another one scheduled at 36 weeks to just see how big she's grown.
  • I have a completely normal pregnancy and am almost 35 weeks. My OB talks about my 36 week ultrasound like it's normal too. I have been measuring big though, so maybe that's why. It'll be my 4th ultrasound and I don't mind. They always switch it over to 3D for me for free.
  • It's not normal for my OB but I'm being closely monitored so have one at 36 weeks. Plus to check on babys position because it was breach last time.
  • I had my '20 week' one at 19 weeks and I'm not scheduled for anymore unless something takes a turn. They don't see a need for it.
  • I'm at risk for preterm so I'm having one at 32weeks and again at 36weeks. I think it depends on the OB and the maternal health.
