Hypothyroid pregos?

Hello my lovelies!

I was wondering if anyone else was also hypothyroid and prego? I take 100 mg of Synthyroid every day and was wondering that now I am pregnant... do you think I'll have to increase my dose? I am reading mixed results online and I know everyone is different but I was curious to hear from y'all. I had my initial bloodwork done last Monday but it hasn't been made available to me yet (frustrating bc it's normally available within 2-3 days!). I do have an appointment with my endocrinologist tomorrow but I am not sure what he's going to be able to do without my bloodwork results! Anyways, what's your experience with this matter? Appreciate you chiming in!

Re: Hypothyroid pregos?

  • Usually your levels are monitored more frequently during your pregnancy and adjusted as needed.

  • Just make sure your ob checks it through your pregnancy. I believe the change in hormones could cause it to change. I have it and in my first 2 pregnancies it was fine however after I had my baby they needed to be adjusted up a bit.
  • I am hypothyroid and take 150 mcg of Levothyroxine. I think your endocrinologist will determine if you need to increase your dose. I am at 6 weeks 1 day and this is my first...I just emailed my endocrinologist today to let her know I am pregnant. Hopefully, I will hear back from her tomorrow. From conversations I've had with her when I was TTC, it sounds like she and my OB will be monitoring my levels frequently.

  • I am hypothyroid and they did increase my medication... I have to take an extra pill every Wednesday and Sunday... They will be checking my levels more frequently as my TSH was a bit higher than they like...

  • My Dr increased my dosage once I became preggo. I went from 75 mcg to 88 mcg and have to take 2 pills on Sundays. Now instead of seeing my endo every 3 months, I have to go once a month.

I'm on 130 mg of Nature-throid. My last pregnancy my doctor tested me every 4 weeks. During my third trimester he had to decrease my dosage, but I had to increase it again after the baby was born. Either your OB or endocrinologist should keep an eye on it.

  • Thank y'all! I am going to talk to my OB Wednesday when I see her and discuss my blood work. I did tests on 7/1 and everything was fine at that point. I do appreciate all of your input!

  • Yes I am I have hashimotos & my meds have just been increased due to my Lil chunky monkey needing all of me lol , I'm 8.4 weeks & I have weekly bloods & see my endo monthly & ob monthly to keep an eye on things , so long as your levels are checked & your meds increased as your pregnancy progresses all will be fine :)
  • I receive care through a Reproductive Endocrinologist due to IF.  When I told him I was pregnant, he increased my dose of levothyroxine from  25 mg to 37.5 mg .  I was never determined "hypothyroid" but my levels have always been on the brink and I was started on meds while we were TTC to increase the chances of be becoming pregnant.  We are re-testing my TSH one month from the increase date.
  • Since becoming pregnant, my TSH levels got slightly elevated. 3.3 and my OBGYN wants me under 2.5. I'm on 0.025 mg of Synthroid. Seeing an endocrinologist now and getting more blood work done this week to see how it's working.
