Vent..

I am really starting to hate breastfeeding. Not only does LO want to eat all the freaking time...like if i get an hr of freedom when she is awake is a christmas miracle...but im the only one who can accomplish the freaking task. So i sit feeding while my husband does whatever pleases him. So here i sit at 1215 am feeding and wishing I was sleeping while I hear him playing video games with his friends having a grand ol time. Im veryyyy annoyed. I would pump but I have to feed her enough that there is no time and u want a moment of boobs in shirt . I just want to give her an apple and say eat it or go to bed those are your two flipping options.

Re: Vent..

  • When you switch boobs pump the boob she already finished! I can always get a bit out of it and that adds up! Then I make hubby feed him it when I get a full bottle! Also my husband helps when I feed.. He is on diaper duty! Before we start to feed and if he goes in the middle of feeding I hand him off.. See if hubby will help with whatever you need help doing during feeding..

Normally he does help but lately he has sucked at it. It would be nice if my daughter actually would be easy to put to bed but I think I would have an easier time winning a gold medal at the olympics. Since day 1 she has hated sleep (which is stupid because I love it). I just took her out in the rocker and she passed out but then he made some loud noise at his game and woke her back up and he was not even phased. I don't know if I hold her weird or what but I cant pump while she eats. Her body and the bottle get in the way of each other. I just hate that guys can zone out if they want for a little while...its 2 am...she has not slept since 5pm.....he better start making his chest produce milk or I am going to cause him bodily harm (not really but I have a vivd imagination!)
  • I totally understand where you're coming from. And I agree, I've tried pumping while feeding DS and it did not work at all. Tried doing it while rocking him to sleep and that was a disaster. Apparently I need 2 hands for all tasks.

As for DH - we agreed that he needed to have daddy time with LO. And I was going insane. So bedtime is all him. I feed him and then DH burps him, changes him, and swaddles. During that time I get myself ready for bed. Then I come back and we do stories, songs and prayers together. Then I leave and either finish up things around the house or go to sleep (depending on my level of exhaustion). DH rocks him to sleep and then lays him down. It also gives me an extra half hour or so of sleep/wind down time at night.

I feel your pain when it comes to wanting to share the feeding duties. My DH often says he wishes he could do it, but I think he only says that when I'm hysterical about lack of sleep.

But then I watch my LO's expression when I come into the room vs. daddy, and I remember that we are their EVERYTHING. Sure DS loves DH but the connection (in my opinion) is not the same. No one can soothe him like mommy can. And that makes me so happy. So I will keep plugging on doing these BF sessions and know that it will get easier over time. And know, it WILL get better!!!

Oh. And I also sometimes force DH to come sit with me while I nurse just so I have someone to talk to. He whines about it usually a bit, but I need the company and he gets that.
  • Lol! You ladies are funny! @odawg I love your witty words- and the image of DH whining bc @chambersbaby2015 you make him sit with you is priceless! Haha
But seriously, Breastfeeding is super tough. I've developed a reward system for myself. When I BF I get to either watch Netflix, binge on lactation cookies, order DH or DS1 around to get me drinks or bring me my book, call and talk to someone on the phone, and of course Bump!
I also noticed that the times that I hate it are when my supply is low, so I make sure to drink extra water and eat that oatmeal!
    Keep your chin up!
  • I used to hate it too. But I read enough articles and just kept plugging away and now I love it (except when I'm exhausted and he eats every freaking hour like you originally stated). I also sometimes make my husband sit in the nursery with me so we can chat. I have enough time alone with just baby I want my husband too! It's bad enough I sit and watch him play games while laying on the couch (instead of folding laundry like I asked 3x). He does evenings or weekends diaper duty and some feedings. I tell him if he's not going to do chores then he can sit with me (he still plays games but I feel less lonely at least!). Everyone says it gets better. And when you think about how baby is growing and YOU alone are providing nutrients and chubby little rolls on their body- how awesome is that?!

I feel your pain. I started exclusively pumping for that reason. It is a bit more work but it's why works best for me and LO and we are both much happier. I will occasionally BF when I'm feeling lazy though lol
  • @agilber3 - agreed!! I have this weird sense of pride every time I weigh DS knowing that nothing but me and my body are providing what he needs to be plumping up!!

Also whenever I feel discouraged about BF I read an article I have about the BF timeline. I find it super encouraging and it just highlights key things as your LO grows. I like looking ahead and reminding myself that he won't always want to eat 7 or 8 times a day. It won't be long before we are just feeding in the morning and at night! They grow up so fast.
