Seriously, you can eat anything. Think about China. They eat EVERYTHING. On top of that, they have a one child policy And there are still more than a billion of them. And their kids are performing just fine.
But no, old wives tales like "parsley puts you into labor" or "Hummus makes your baby die" are complete bunkum.
My cat loves a nibble of A&W. Of Wendy's and Five Guys. But she turns her nose up at McDonald's and will even back away from it. Most animals do and when even insects avoid it, it's probably not something you want to give your growing fetus.
I doubt eating it once or twice does any damage. I'm just personally avoiding it. I have not had the same luck with taco bell. I've eaten that.
I'm also avoiding things with artificial sweeteners (diet coke -my fave) and nitrates (I buy nitrate free, grass fed hot dogs because I love hot dogs in the summer). Oh! And cow's milk. I'm trying to avoid the antibiotics added to dairy and meat.
"Use common sense, cook your food and make sure your dairy is pasteurized. There is very little you can do that will actually hurt your baby. Don't smoke crack, but really most babies exposed to crack end up ok."
I love my doctor. I have been mostly avoiding caffeine and alcohol, raw fish and meat, unpasteurized cheese, sketchy purveyors of food and high mercury fish. I have been eating burgers medium and steak medium rare, runny yolks, lunch meat, hot dogs, bacon etc. When we were in utero these food rules didn't exist, and most of us are just fine!
