Back with a question about HSG tests

Hi ladies!

I've been off the boards for a few months now... After my first cycle failed since I couldn't produce a single follicle... We're now with a new clinic and they have confirmed that in order to conceive we need to use an egg donor. After some soul searching we are going ahead and are very excited to receive some good news (and a baby!)

My question is: I still need to go through with an HSG has anyone else had to go through this? What was it like?

I have gone through two. It is different for everyone. Mine were both very painful experiences. But some woman take them as no big deal. Wish you the best!

happy to hear you have an exciting plan in place! it doesn't make sense to me that you would need another HSG, but i bet they would do a water sonogram of your uterus (can't remember the name)--DOES NOT feel the same as an HSG...didn't feel any pain! good luck!

Just had one done about a month ago. It was a little crampy for a minute or two but it went away. I spotted a little after but no major issues for me. The results were normal.

It just feels like cramps. Mine was over in 3 minutes. It's really not that bad.

I've had one HSG screening and I won't lie...it was extremely painful. I've heard other women say it was a breeze for them. The good news is that it doesn't last long at all. Mine lasted maybe 2 mins. Good luck!

The HSG was more significant cramping for me than I'm used to (and I do have a lot of cramping during my cycles), but, after the catheter is inserted in the cervix, it feels like 2 seconds and it's done- the preparation and positioning of the catheter was the worst for me, but afterwards, I had minimal spotting and cramping and only took pain reliever a few hrs before (OTC), and once after when it had been long enough. By the evening I felt pretty normal. Good luck, you'll do just fine!

I thought it was painful and cried a little bit but it was over in about 5 minutes. When I get cramps I just want to curl up into a ball but unfortunately you have to lay down flat. The cramping subsided after the doctor took the catheter out and I just had minor cramps for about 20 minutes after. I took anxiety medication (prescribed my the doctor) and two extra strength Tylenol.

Your doctor gave you anxiety medicine after the Hsg? Like Xanax? Lucky girl. Haha

Valium before the HSG! Haha I have a history of passing out with Pap smears. I also used to get like that with needeles but now I'm a pro because of how much I've had my blood drawn and the injections I've given myself.

Following this post because I have to have an HSG in a few weeks (my Dr. informed me of this on day 12 of my cycle, and they'll only do it between days 5 and 10! So more waiting...::sigh::).

Mine was very, very painful. Luckily, it's over quickly and the nurse attending was an absolute sweetheart. I took a T3 an hour before the procedure, thank God. Once theTt3 wore off, I had horrible cramping for about 45 mins. I would recommend taking some sort of painkiller beforehand. It's different for everyone though. My friend had one and she said it wasn't bad at all ; she didn't even take any Advil. However, she has already had a child, so that may have made a difference. Good luck!
