Brown discharge?

I've been experiencing some brown discharge on my panty liner every day for the past week I'd say, as well as VERY slight brownish hue when I wipe sometimes --- is this normal? My midwife told me not to worry about miscarriage unless you get bright red blood, but when I have this discharge and no cramps or anything else, I am a little concerned.

Thanks :)

Re: Brown discharge?

  • You will see a rainbow of colors throughout your pregnancy - brown is one of them.  Try not to worry :)

  • I would still call and discuss it with your MW. I'm sorry but I don't agree that it's always normal, and I'm speaking from experience.

I've had a lot of brown spotting last week along with cramping and then some pink spotting, and I did have some concerns, so I spoke with my doctor.  They checked and all was well.  Discharge during pregnancy can run the gambit, for sure.
  • Call your doctor for sure. I had it for a week and sadly ended in miscarriage. It can be normal!!! But go to your OB for sure
  • I had a miscarriage last month, but my body didn't recognize it. I had a stillborn before that, and then another miscarriage that passed on its own before that. I'm hoping that there is still a baby, and I'm going in on Wednesday. Hopefully all is well, but I'll send my midwife a message. Thanks ladies.

Definitely do what helps give you peace of mind.  Sorry you are having so much worry right now.

  • Going into the doctor on Wednesday to see how things are going. I'm only about 7 weeks along, and it's still happening on and off. But my midwife said not to worry, it's normal for this stage. Praying for a heartbeat on Wednesday!
  • I had it for weeks straight, it's finally subsiding ! I'm 8 weeks 2 days now, but I had to wear panty liners every day and every night !! My doc said don't worry unless it's a bunch of red blood with crazy cramps! And I've seen heartbeat twice :)

Personally, I would contact a Dr/midwife. I suffered a miscarriage last October and my only symptom was brown spotting. I had very mild cramps and no heavy bleeding whatsoever. Obviously, brown discharge does not mean the worst in every case but it's something I would get checked if you are concerned.xx
  • I've read a lot about this throughout other boards as well, and it seems that everybody has a different experience with it. Sometimes it can be normal to have spotting or brown discharge, especially if you just went in for your first prenatal exam and had a pap smear. Ultimately, if you're really concerned, I would call your doctor. He/she would be the best person to help you out with this one! Good luck!!
  • Thank you girls I called her and I will visit her in a couple of hours we will see.. Please get your fingers crossed so we will see he/she is growing and hear heartbeats. Well I am trying to stay calm :) My friend is a midwife and she told me it is normal till 8w. Beaches of the woom getting bigger. Well we will see.. Hope I will give you good news!
  • Oh I hate the oto correction not *beaches... *because And not *woom *womb..
  • I am so relieved:) we saw our baby with 1.7cm and heard the heart beat 145 :) 7w2d! And everything is fine our doc said, don't worry but just take it easy don't walk too much and spend time outside of the home she said. I am so happy now but will rest for the couple of weeks.
