The purpose of the anatomy scan is to make the baby is ok. My ex SIL paid to have an early scan and found out her baby didn't have kidneys (Potter's Syndrome). Yes, it's great she found out early but traumatic because she just thought she was going to hear boy or girl. It was a girl, BTW.

Yeah and this is the main reason why they do this scan. To make sure bebeh is physically sound. But unless you're a staunch team green (different story all together) you're telling a damned boldfaced lie if you say that the perk of finding out the sex, if you're able to, is not something you're even remotely curious about.
Hell, who amongst us can honestly say that they don't care to know the details of the human being they're making?? Any details! The more the better. Every single little detail. I get that with 2+ time moms, it's not as big a deal as it is to us virgin moms. I get that the second, third, fourth time around, it gets more routine, your emotional experience is probably totally different and you may not be as on edge as us FTMs are.
But cripes on a cracker, if I can get what it might be like to be a second time mom (something i've never experienced) surely second time moms can get what it's like to be a first time mom (something they HAVE experienced).
We're not here talking about the details of our life to inconvenience anybody. Frankly, it's NOT ABOUT you or anybody else. There are stupid posts, no doubt about that. But wanting to know the sex of your baby and feeling confident that this should happen during an anatomy scan IS NOT ONE OF THOSE POSTS. Our doctors TELL us that we'll find out the baby's sex during this scan. our doctors themselves prepare us for this. So of COURSE we think it's part of the whole thing.
Because we CARE about this stuff.
If we didn't care, we wouldn't be here. We wouldn't be online at 4am in tears asking other members if that sudden gush of discharge could possibly be our water breaking early. We wouldn't be here discussing our baby names and nursery color schemes (robin's egg blue and scarlet) and our fears and our hopes and every little single frigging thing that we're feeling or thinking.
I've identified two types of people around here. There are the kind that want to talk about their kids and there are the kind that want to micromanage the people wanting to talk about their kids.
It blows my mind how mean some people can be on here...
Oh stop. No one was mean. Just honest.
Some people were being nitpicky and naggy.
I get that some people are just Like That. But for those of us who find nagging and nitpicking abhorrent, it's kind of obnoxious.
Some of us also feel that ultrasounds for "funsies" are abhorrent. And people that have no patience are kind of obnoxious. So there's that.
Agreed! The FDA also recommends limiting the the number of ultrasounds as it is possible the heat from the ultrasound can cause damage to the tissue known as cavitation. Citation: https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6341940
Wow I thought these were to support other mothers, not bring them down. Gosh.
Girrrrrrrl no. This is a forum and in the TOU it states for entertainment. I'm just saying it like this, before someone comes out and tells you in a manner that reads much more harshly. This is a forum, people will say what they want... it comes with the territory of posting.
I had some apple juice the other day before my ultra sound and the baby was doing back flips. It was so awesome to see my baby moving but interesting, because I am not far enough along to feel the movements yet. Anything with a little bit of sugar will help
