Has anyone here lied to OB 2 get an U/S?

One of my girlfriends was asking when do I get my first U/S and I said 12wks...she then told me that I should totally lie to my OB/GYN and say I've been spotting to see if she'll get me an U/S.

Have any of you done this?

I feel like if I do I would jinx my pregnancy and something horrible will happen. Am I a wimp?

  • Or you could just tell them that you want an ultrasound?  I don't know...lying sounds kind of shady to me...

  • Just think about how you would take that slot from someone who really did need that u/s, who maybe was spotting.  You can wait until 12 weeks, I wouldn't lie.
  • I wouldn't.  I thoroughly believe karma is a biitch.
  • That's what my friend told me to do, but I could never lie about something like that!! And like you said I would def jinx myself or the baby or the whole thing.  You will get an u/s just be patient.

  • 12 weeks???? Some people have to wait until 20. Don't be greedy!
  • I wouldn't do it BUT I must admit the thought crossed my mind..then I remembered my Aunt is a sono tech and she can give them to me for free!! YAY.
  • That is horrible!! Spotting/cramping is scary enough when you go through it I can't imagine lying about it!

  • I didn't with the last one, and I won't with this one. I don't want to take up the person's time, and I wouldn't want my pregnancy to seem more at risk that it is.
  • I was shaky on the exact date of my LMP, so I played that up a bit in hopes of an U/S. I did get one.

I wouldn't lie about spotting or cramping, though. Bad joujou.

I know the waiting's hard!! I went through it with my first. Hang in there!

  • this is not a good idea.

Thats exactly what I was just thinking.. That is an awful thing to do. God forbid you DO start spotting then you are really going to need one. and spotting is no fun at all. trust me. brings your worry that you already had to the max. Ask you Doctore for one. They wait for a reason.

  • This is a really horrible and disgusting thought.  How would you feel if you really had been spotting, and they told you "sorry we had too many people in here with fake spotting, so we can't verify your pregnancy now".

I really hope you tell your friend that karma is a biitch.

Ditto. Just wait till 12 weeks.

  • Here's another thought, with DD we had an ultrasound at 7 weeks to date the pregnancy, and while the heartbeat was a beautiful sound, the picture was just a little bean. If you wait until 12 weeks, then you will actually get to see arms and legs, and your baby will actually resemble a baby!

They would probably do one at 12 weeks only to date the pregnancy, and if you had one earlier, they might just use the one you already had. I don't think insurance companies really like paying for them.

With this baby, we won't have an ultrasound until 10 wks, and I am excited to have one farther along this time! :) Be patient, it will get here!

  • Why would you lie about something like that? It's not even funny...

  • I wouldn't lie to get one, especially if I was as far along as you are. You wouldn't see much anyways. My FIs mom told me that some woman come into the doctors office and say they don't know how far along they were and they were told something different at the hospital just to get an u/s.

The way I look at it is the doctors know what they are doing and if they feel an u/s is important and needed then they will do one.

  • This thought makes me cringe.  I have been in the position where I had spotting and I was terrified sitting in the waiting room waiting for my ultra sound to find out if my baby was still alive.  I'm sorry, but I think making up a lie like that just to get something you want is really wrong.  I agree, Karma is a ***.
  • Not joking...My girlfriend is totally serious about it AND she said that she did it for both of her pregnancies - Thank goodness that I'm not the only one with a conscience.  I just feel that something bad would totally happen.

I don't want anything to happen to my little poppy seed

  • I've never lied to my OB/GYN (and never would). Especially with that type of horrible situation.

You're not a wimp. You seem to be a person with values and morals. Keep it that way.

P.S. You should not only NOT want to lie for fear of karma, but because it's wrong and childish as well (not to mention selfish).

  • Honey, waiting until 12 weeks is easy. I had to wait until 20 weeks with my first pregnancy. Besides, there really isn't much interesting to see before that.  Stick it out :)
  • I can't believe anyone would consider this. I really am speechless....
  • What if you actually do start spotting and they won't give you another u/s?

     ::Shrugs::

I had an u/s at 7 weeks and it was just a white line. Although we heard the hb and it made me feel better. It's a temporary feeling and you don't see much, and a week later I was wondering about the baby.

My next u/s isn't for a month (for testing) and that's the one I'm really excited about because it will look like a baby, not just a cloud.

If you're really uncomfortable call the health department and say you are pregnant but you don't know how far along you are and they might do one... or just ask your OB for one. You'll have to pay for it but DO NOT lie.

  • Yeah, I would never lie to get an ultrasound!  This is just as bad as the women that lie about how long they've been TTC in order to see a fertility specialist.
  • imageMidwestTexan:
Why would you lie about something like that? It's not even funny...

    amen

  • Don't lie.  And that is just dumb.  I asked my doctor for one and she put the order in. My doctor didn't do one until 12 wks but understood that I might want one.  Why would you lie about bleeding?  Unbelievable.  Will you lie about M/S so you get extra suckers at the doctor too?
  • Um, you shouldn't do that. Why?

Because it will become part of your medical record. And if it wasn't true, then that would be falsifying medical records, which I believe is a crime.

I could be wrong, but you still shouldn't lie to get an earlier u/s. Your inisurance might not cover more than a pre-determined amount of them anyway.

  • Ugh...  please tell me that you wouldnt really do this...  For real... not good...
  • Ya - definitely don't lie about that kind of stuff... for those of us that had to go through it, it is really not something you take lightly and definitely not something to use to your advantage.  Besides... the longer you wait for your u/s the more there is to see.
  • dont do that. thats horrible and really bad karma.

I didn't get my first until 20 weeks...and my last at 24 to check my placenta. Don't lie...it'll bite you in the ass eventually.
