I dont think people should home school unless there are cerain medical or mental issues that need to be delt with.
I have a relative who is home schooling her two boys, she doesn't agree with what the school feeds them and she thinks there's too much "temptation" out there. I shouldn't judge but those kids are almost incapable of normal social interaction because the only person they are ever around is there mother. I feel like those poor kids have a tough row to hoe to hope to ever be normal. I try not to mommy judge but its messed up. This is how I feel about it.edit

I have yet to meet someone who was home-schooled and is socially normal (doesn't mean they're not out there, just that I haven't met one yet)
I'm so sick of seeing Minions everywhere. I can't even scroll through Pinterest without seeing a million Minion memes. Over it :-w

My UO- I am all for leggings but I absolutely hate seeing girls wearing them as pants to work without something long enough to cover their butts. I work in a business casual environment and I feel like they are completely inappropriate.
I hate the gluten free diet fad. I have celiac disease, and the people who are choosing to "eat GF" and do a piss poor job of it (i.e. asking for a GF menu but then ordering a non-gf dessert or eating the bread before the meal) are ruining it for those of us who will actually get ill with any tiny amount of gluten. Sooo many restaurants seem to think that they can pick croutons off a salad, or bring me gluten free bread on the same plate as the regular bread. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. A crumb will have me spending the next 18 hours in the bathroom. Thanks a lot, diet fad people.

@kballou I don't know if that unpopular or not. I feel like your disclaimer or caveat is very reasonable. I don't want to see someone's butt crack, or just the IMPRESSION of your butt crack. No thanks.

I do a Paleo AIP diet because of my health and I get this all the time. And even if some things are "gluten free" I still can't have it cause its made from almonds. When I tell people they say" oh cause its a big thing now right?" and I am like "no its cause I have an auto immune system disorder and now my body made me nuts and gluten sensitive that I will break out in hives when I eat something with that in it as well as a bad time in the bathroom."
My brother is getting married next month to the complete definition of a bridezilla. Without going into all the boring details, I feel as if my family and I are being used just so she can have some lavish, rich, parade of a wedding.
I'm a bridesmaid. I don't want to get them a gift. Not for the shower and not for the wedding. I've given way too much as it is.

The no GMO fad drives me totally insane. As a health care professional with a husband who is a degree educated farmer, we are both big fans of science and research. And the actual research just isn't there to not support GMO's. Particularly the "wheat belly" guy who talks about GMO wheat being the reason behind every damn health condition. FYI, there currently is no GMO wheat in existence. Yes, that's right - it literally does not exist. How about we try just eating healthy (fruits, veggies, carbs within moderation and the occasional junk food treat) and live active lifestyles. Sheesh.
Oh OH OH!! I really really really dislike when people say they're "OCD" when they really mean "particular".
I want to slap people for this. I don't even know someone with OCD (that I'm aware of), but just because you're anal retentive or have an idea of how things should be...doesn't mean you are OCD.

I am a biologist and I want to throat punch people when they say GMOs are bad. I want to scream YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A GMO IS!! If you don't want to eat GMOs then don't eat basically any of our agriculture. Oh and those seeds you bought to plant in your backyard?? PROBABLY a GMO too. They're not bad. Our environment naturally does genetic modification on its own. Organic =/= non-GMO. This is literally one of my biggest pet peeves.
Oh OH OH!! I really really really dislike when people say they're "OCD" when they really mean "particular".

I totally agree with you there. It seems so insensitive to me that people are diminishing a real psychological disorder to " Oh I just hate when my bathroom sink isn't clean".
My UO- I really don't like all the fancy "baby gender announcement" stuff. Why are you spending so much money on a photographer and sending cards in the mail to tell people whether you're having a boy or girl? I just don't get it. And I really dislike the whole boy=blue, girl=pink thing. Colors don't have genders!
I can't stand it when I'm having a panic attack and people say, "Oh just calm down, you will be just fine". Um if it was that fucking simple don't you think I would be ok right now. Yes anxiety is a real disorder. I'm doing my best to manage it. If you can't help or be supportive leave me alone. my step MIL has made me feel bad a few times and just pushes me to the max. It's like she knows when I'm having an attack and bothers me for kicks.

I'm a teacher, my mom is a teacher, my hubby is a freaking genius, and I would never homeschoolmy kids. As much crap as teachers get we go to school for a LONG time to learn HOW to teach and best practices, etc...
My UO so my Facebook is blowing up with friends and family against the food service minimum wage hike in NY and I don't get it. Why does one section getting paid more mean that others can't get paid more too!!! People making more money in every sector helps the economy.
I absolutely HATE peeing on a stick. I finally had to give up OPK's because I was so annoyed with never catching my surge simply because I could not bring myself to POAS multiple times a day. I have only ACTUALLY taken a HPT twice in 7 cycles. Once because I ovulated way later than I thought (before I started temping) and thought my period was late and last month because my period was due on July 6 and I wanted to be sure it was safe to drink over the July 4th holiday.
The word twat makes my skin crawl. It's an ooogey word. I will use the C word ALL day long, though with no issues.

I'm going to have to disagree with your "long time" statement regarding teachers going to school. While I do think teachers are better prepared for educating, with the exception of a professor, most teachers go to school the same length as every other undergraduate degree. Both my sister in laws are teachers and one graduated in 4 years, the other was able to complete in 3 years.
But, again, I agree with you. Teachers trump parent homeschooling. Especially because teachers attend workshops & evolve with the times. I'm a big fan of teachers.

@Everycol0r very true, but most districts and nearly every state now require a Masters Degree for continued certification /licensure and if you were not "grandfathered" in No Child left Behind requires it for you to be considered highly qualified.
I currently only have my Bachelor's, but in the next year or 2 I will have to get my master's to keep my certification.

Neither of my SILs have masters, both have undergraduate degrees. Never heard about requirement for the Masters degree. The youngest just graduated in December and was employed the October before graduation.

I second this. My SIL suffers from OCD, and hearing stories about what she went through as a child pre-diagnosis and what she deals with as an adult with meds are heartbreaking. People need to wake up and realize mental health issues are for REAL, and stop dismissing them.
@Everycol0r usually have a window of time to get it started. And can totally be employed without it I have until next year to get it started before I lose my certification and have to completely reapply.
I'm happy to admit to being wrong too regs are state to state and I only now NY, NV, AZ, LA because I have looked into it in those states for jobs.

Texas doesn't, but I can't speak for other states. Highly qualified only means that you are certified to teach that subject and/or have a degree or enough college hours in the subject you teach.

One of my sisters has five and insists on homeschooling because of her religious beliefs...which is fine, they aren't my kids, but there is a Catholic (her religion) school literally 15 minutes from her house. The simply aren't "Catholic enough." What?!? And they're still young, but I can already tell that they lack social skills compared to the other nine nieces and nephews who go to *Catholic* grade schools.
My UO, to caveat a pp: if people want to make $15 an hour, they should get an education or skill that's worth $15 an hour. I'm in the military, and the fact that someone who flips burgers has a higher annual wage than I do rustles my jimmies. And no, not everyone can just *get* a raise, especially if the federal government sets your salary.

In California, I had to go to grad school to get a teaching credential. CA is the strictest, I've heard. I also have a masters and in my fifth year of teaching. I've taken three or more classes each year and I'm still not at the top of the bracket to be done with classes. I also had to do a special program during my first two years to ensure I'm not stupid. I think there's a couple other states that are like this- New York maybe?
My UO is that I like to wear leggings. They're just so comfy! Once I did wear them to work, but I wore boots and my shirt definitely covered my butt.
