Post partum period

Hi Baby Mammas!!

I hope you are all doing well. Sorry I've been a bit MIA on the boards for the past little while- the twins are keeping me pretty busy. I am 9 weeks Pp and just got my period (fucking amazing) I'm slightly concerned because it's honestly flowing like Niagara Falls, sorry to be disgusting but is it normal for it to be soooo heavy? I typically have a light period that lasts about 3 days and im soaking through super heavy tampons in about 2 hours :( second time moms any experience with this?

Re: Post partum period

  • I'm not a second time mom but I did just get my period and I was bleeding SO much for about 4 days and then the bleeding stopped.

  • It is common to have your period be heavier when it does come back unfortunately :(

Mine was super light. Tbh mine have always been pretty light, but although it's common, a heavy pp period isn't exactly inevitable...

ETA: that's "I got 2 hours sleep and cranky" speak for "Mine was fine, I hope all of yours are too!"
  • Mine was crazy heavy. :(

  • Second time mom, mine were heavy the first 4 months then went back to normal. I couldn't wear tampons for the first few cycles because they were really uncomfortable, this is also considered normal according to my doctor.
  • Eh not looking forward to a period. 7 weeks op and haven't started yet. I have twins too! But I sure got my birth control ready to go when the time comes!

I got my period 10weeks pp. It was heavier and longer than usual. It was as heavy as you've described yours for a couple days and then lasted for about 8 days.

With DD mine was way lighter than before. That was five years ago. I'm praying it's the same this time.

This may need to be a ffq but, I thought BFing made your periods lighter and even stopped them sometimes??? Maybe that's an OWT or just super incorrect information. I'm a little bummed now.

I must be one of the lucky ones (knock on wood). With ds (almost 3 now), I didn't get my period until he was 11 months old. And the only reason I think it came then is my milk supply was drying up. I'm almost 7 weeks pp and have not gotten it yet. I'm praying I don't until I'm done bfing. With ds, my periods did change. Before it was super heavy flow for 2 days and then it started to slow down. They lasted 5 days. PP they still lasted 5 days, but were pretty heavy for the first 4 and hardly anything day 5.

Edited to add that I'm a twin mommy too.

  • With DS, I didn't get my period until 2 months after I stopped BF. But it was super heavy, longer than usual and slightly irregular (I'm usually like clockwork ). It took about 6 months to go back to normal with each month slightly better. That first one though, man, not cool.

@dancegurl1118 got it right - I felt like a teenager again.
  • Welcome back @emilywooddesign! (Now we are just missing @finchfeeder80!)

So I am waiting with bated breath for my period so I can start birth control (I'm 7 weeks pp now), but this is making me dread it, darn...
  • This period thing feels like a ticking time bomb. I could've sworn I was going to get it last week because of all of the cramping I've been having and because it was my birthday week and that's the kind of luck I have, but nope, still waiting.
I'm curious how long it will take for Aunt Flo to rear her ugly head because I'm not BFing. At least I have my BC ready to go.
  • It's eased up a bit so I no longer think I might bleed to death.

Ugh I got my last week (5 weeks pp) was soooo not expecting it so soon. It was also extremely heavy along with the worst cramps and lasted 4 days. Of course it aligned perfectly with LO's most fussy week yet. Needless to say this mama was happy that week ended.
  • I don't have to wait to get it for all birth control right? Because I get my mirena on Monday and haven't had my period (apparently my resurgence of bleeding at 6 weeks was just PP blood, which is normal per my doctor?). I know you guys aren't doctors but I just figured I'd ask!

So far mine doesn't make sense... I started spotting last night around 10pm so I knew my period was coming (I would spot for an hour or two post pregnancy & then my period would hit me... Sorry for tmi!) & then come this morning it's gone! I didn't end up getting my period and I'm not even spotting anymore. Idk what that was all about.

My doctor told me I could start my BC after my period came and went (my BC starts on a Sunday) or start it on Sunday right away. I chose to wait till after I got my period because I felt weird taking it knowing my period was on its way.

  • Mine is acting funny. I also got a script for BCP and the dr said start it the Sunday after my period starts. So last Saturday I get what I think is a period, heavy enough to use a tampon(and haven't had pp bleeding for weeks). Sunday I start the pill and my period is gone. So who knows.
