32 weeks and baby ultrasound is saying he's 6lbs!!

I have GD and very controlled sugars.  Just about two weeks ago my sugars started to get out of control no matter what I ate or didn't eat.  My last doctor for my daughter told me that I would start going through a resistance no matter how controlled my sugars would be.  I was so discouraged.  The doctors didn't seem too worried.  They told me don't worry myself.  They talked about maybe taking him a little earlier which that would put me in a bad spot.  They may not do it.  I won't find out anything else until Friday because they want me to start coming back in every week now.  When my daughter was born on my very last ultrasound, they told me she would be 8 or 9 pounds.  She came to be 6lbs 9oz.  I am really worried because my husband and I got a lot going on this month and next month. Everything is coming in all at once now.

Re: 32 weeks and baby ultrasound is saying he's 6lbs!!

  • They told me my son would be 9.5 pounds too and he came out 7 pounds 9 oz. they are often wrong.

  • Yeah I'm really trying to convince myself that they maybe wrong.  I lost four pounds of my own weight.  So I don't want to believe he's that big.
  • I'm 31 weeks and meeting the same kind of resistance now. My little guy is still measuring on schedule at 3 pounds 11oz so we're still thinking of going to 39 weeks. Good luck!
  • Mine was 4 pounds at 32 weeks even. I did not even start anything for GD until 31 weeks, 4 days because of how they scheduled appts, etc. My mom is diabetic and I sporadically would test at her house when I was down to see where I was and never had a high reading between 28-31 weeks. The second I started on this, I've seen some higher numbers and it's created a lot of anxiety for me... Just curious when you saw the increases in your numbers?

  • I saw them two weeks ago.  My numbers started to increase.  They told me to keep them between 90 and 120.  They were actually over that.  My mom is diabetic also and when I told her my fasting number was 130 she told me that wasn't high, but by me being pregnant she forgot that is high.
  • I'm GD as well. I see a MFM & trust her measurements much more. They've never been really off with my other kids. She looks in detail & takes multiple measurements of the same body parts to get a more accurate estimate. We're 6lbs right now at 33w 4d. I'm not worried since my last 2 GD babies were bigger & I'm a repeat CS.

My doctors wait until 39 weeks unless there's an emergency though. Unless I developed another medical issue or my placenta had deterioration they wouldn't go any earlier. Wishing you the best of luck!!
  • I think the ultrasound can only give an estimate of the baby's weight. I don't think they're very accurate.
  • I had a friend who delivered at 33 weeks a healthy baby girl a couple of weeks ago. She weighed 5lb5oz and she didn't have GD.
  • My friend delivered her twins at 34 weeks and both were over 5lbs, no gd either...I think all babies vary on size and ultrasounds aren't always the best answer to size. My first was supposed to be 8lb + and came out at 6lb 6oz at 40w...you never know!
  • Well my doctor called me today and told me that they were not going to take me earlier than 39 weeks and that I would be going on a low dose of insulin.  I feel a little better.  I'm just going to keep praying for my baby and I.  I think he's not going to be as big just reading all of your comments made me feel a little better.
