Naps

My LO is eleven weeks old and started to get super fussy around 7 PM every night. I read that it could be because he's overtired and realized he wasn't taking but maybe two naps during the day for about 45 minutes each. I've started putting him down for more naps during the day and he actually likes it and is in a MUCH better mood at nighttime. My question is how many naps and what length are your LOs taking during the day? He's also sleeping from around 9-7 and wakes up twice during the night to eat.

Re: Naps

  • My LO had his 2 month check up yesterday and his ped said he shouldn't be sleeping for longer than 4 hours during the day. He usually takes a couple of short naps (30-45 min) in the morning and then if I'm lucking a fairly long (2-3) hour nap in the afternoon. We try to start bed time around 7 or 8pm. Sometimes it only takes 30-60 minutes and sometimes LO is stubborn and we are going until 11pm. He generally wakes up a couple times during the night but goes back to sleep quickly and then gets up for good between 6 and 8am. He's 9 weeks.

  • That's good to know! I'm glad that I'm putting him down for more naps then because some days he would literally only take 2 and then would FLIP OUT for about an hour around 7 PM and that's the same time my husband gets home so we would be spending all night getting him to calm down before bed.

DD is 10 weeks old and usually takes 4 or 5 short (45 minute) naps a day.  She sleeps overnight from 8-7 with 1 or 2 feedings.  This is pretty much exactly where my son was at this same age.
  • 7pm is our witching hour too! We start our nighttime routine at 8pm and from 7-8 is our least fun hour of the day. We started feeding them 1 oz at 7 to hold them over to 8:15 and then either going for a walk or a drive. If we don't, it is a very loud house for that hour!
  • DS was 2 months yesterday. He takes 4 naps per day. I try to keep him asleep for at least an hour to hour and a half per nap. If I lay him down then it will only be 45 minutes max. So a lot of his naps are in my arms. He's sleeping from 7pm-6am with one feed around 1am.
