Gender Reveal Party?!

my mother in law wants to have a gender reveal party.. She wants to do the pink or blue cake.. I want to do something a little different .. I thought about having my son open a box that says "brother or sister" with pink or blue balloons flying out .. Just wanted some other ideas!!! I so badly wanted it to be a surprise but I have totally different ideas for nurseries.. :-?

There have been a few post about this. Try searching it to see what ideas other people have suggested. But if YOU want it to be surprise than do want YOU want this is your pregnancy not MILS

Yep. Do what you want. My mom keeps trying to make "rules", like "you have to let us be there when you tell nana" and "you have to call me the second you hear your first kick" ...No, I don't. Parents are excited so they want to call the shots, but this is your baby and you should ultimately do what you want. (Although, is there a reason why you can't do both? Release the balloons as the first slice is cut?)

This sounds more like MIL rant than a sex reveal party rant....

I agree with PPs, your baby - your decision. A lot of things MILs say and do are coming from a good intention but they screw it up on execution.
Set your boundaries with her now or she'll be trying to override all of your future decisions too.

I wouldn't dare be rude to anyone of you on here, for one, I don't know you & two I am an adult?? It's just not who I am. Once again, I was laughing at the fact that she called out my issue I was really having and thought it was funny & saying she does blab a lot! Will never come here for advice again because people are so quick to turn things into something they aren't.

PS- definitely don't have fat fingers

I just went to a reveal party lastnight. They did not find out at u/s but had results in envelope. They gave the envelope to a worker at party city and asked them to fill a black balloon with pink or blue confetti and blow it up. At the party the popped the balloon and blue came raining down. It was great fun! If we were not team green, I would do the exact same.

@jennymundy I wouldn't take it personally, a lot of things get misinterpreted if there is any room at all left for misinterpretation. Especially in an online forum where we don't have any non-verbal communication cues. Nobody knew who you were referring to.
That being said, if you do go good luck to you and if you stick around hopefully you'll see a little more how the community works, mixed receptions are always interesting. We're a mixed bag here for sure.

Oh geez. There are a few other threads about this that actually talk about the reveal party and not being so negative. I didn't realize there was a search tool at the bottom or I would have just used that from the beginning.

There are SOOOO many women reading and commenting on the board, take some time to read, look at the guidelines, read posts that go back a few pages, skim through.... the only reason you got initial sarcasm was because there are so many multiple threads on this particular subject.

I was just a reader for awhile, then became more comfortable getting into the flow and contributing. Things are just preferred to be kept certain ways to keep things more constructive and organized.

Also, giving anyone attitude at the jump was probably not so wise. Especially when women were initially making suggestions, even though it's the 738282nd gender reveal party post they've seen. Usually not that nice lol and then you ruined it... just back away for awhile lol my advice. Just read around.

@jennymundy you mentioned wanting to be team green except that you don't want a gender neutral nursery. Have you thought of putting off decorating the nursery until after the baby is born? Life will be a lot busier after baby arrives and you will be tired, but that's an option. You could even have the nursery painted a versatile color and have all the furniture but wait until after the little one arrives to add accents/decorations that are gender specific. And the first few months baby might be in your room and not in the nursery yet anyways.
