So wht started as a little concern over decrease movement, led me to having my son via C-section at 35 weeks 4 days. He was 5lb 11 oz 17 1/2 inches. He was put in special care, needed some help with his little lungs. He was on the CPAP and O2 for the first 2 days. Also, he had a feeding tube in. He finally got moved to a little incubator. and was able to breast/bottle feed. They left the feeding tube in just in case and my little tough guy actually pulled it out (not once, but three times in the course of the week! lol!) Then he needed phototherapy for jaundice. He only needed one full day of treatment and his levels went down enough to take him off. Finally, by wed. (the day I was discharged from hospital) they took him off his fluid iv. And he was moved to a regular bassinet. After going home, I was back to see him that night, and for the next few days, I basically stayed with him all day, pumping in the hospital, making sure he had enough to eat running back and fourth, living on food from the hospital café. And it was super hard, because since I got a c section I cant drive. By Thursday, their only real concern was his eating and weight. He had dropped weight after birth, which is normal, then he gained. But then he lost again
So we really worked on getting him to eat as much as possible. I couldn't believe my ears Friday afternoon when the doctor told me, as long as he puts on weight, he could go home the next day(Sat)!!! So she said he would get weighed that night at midnight, and as long as he gained, he was good to go. I called at 12:20 am, and heard the wonderful news that he was 5lb 4 ounces. He had gained 2 ounces! So yesterday, I went to the hospital with my fiancé and mom and took baby Benjamin home. Leaving that nursery with him was a feeling I cant put into words. All I could do was cry. He has adjusted so well to being home, and is eating up a storm! I can barley keep up with him. Breastfeeding is challenging, but we are getting better and better. And he drinks from the bottle just fine now. I am so proud of my little guy. This past week has been a roller coaster of emotions and challenges. I too, am still recovering from major surgery and its honestly the last thing on my mind. I am so fortunate to have him in my life. His heart rate decreased so fast at the hospital, that if I wasn't there when it happened, he might not be in my arms. Women always told me, you cant quite put into words the love you have for your baby. They were 100% right. It is insane. He is such a little tough guy! He is my hero. Anyway, I missed you girls, and now that he's home and things have calmed, I will be back on here much more. Just wanted to say thank you all for all the support you have always given me and all the love for Benjamin! ![]()
