Infertility

IUI question(s)...

I had my first (and possibly only) IUI last Wednesday and currently waiting for my blood test to see if it worked. I'm going crazy over here cause I don't know what is happening.  I read that you can have cramping the day of and a day after the procedure, but I am still feeling weird cramps/gurglinings in my stomach.  I also have very creamy CM that hasn't gone away, however I am taking progesterone suppositories nightly.  I'm just really curious if any of you had an IUI and what you experienced afterwards.  Did you get pregnant right away or did it take a few times.  I need to know that I am not alone.

Hi Meghan! You are definitely not alone! I had my first IUI cycle in June, however, it did not work. That doesn't mean it won't work for you and I pray that it does! I am getting ready for my second cycle, I go back on Monday for the baseline blood work and ultrasound. I went crazy too, but you just have to relax. Keep the positive thoughts flowing! And don't take any pregnancy tests! I feel it's better to wait for the blood test in two weeks. It keeps the excitement and suspense alive! Cramps from the procedure are normal. Cramping now could mean implantation!! Yay!! I really hope so! The CM you are talking about is probably the progesterone. I took them twice a day and let me just say, yuck! LOL. Good luck, sticky baby dust and let us know what happens!!

  • I hope that it works for you too the second time around.  This is our one shot for the year cause my insurance only cover's one... so unfair. Otherwise we have to wait or just give up and adopt.  Sticky baby dust to us both!!!!!!!
  • Hi @Meghan_098 - were on our fourth round of IUI, unfortunately not a successful story. Most of my IUIs didn't leave me with too much cramping, apart from the last one where I had bad cramping pains for about 2 days after the transfer. I also had CM for about 3 days post transfer too, I think it's normal. Hoping that you are successful this time round. It's so hard to not think about it during the 2ww but try keep occupied. All the best!
  • Hello! I am on my 6th iui. The first 3 I took clomid, the next 2 we added the fsh injections and trigger shot. And we are doing the injections for this cycle as well, so that's 3 total with the injections. The only symptoms I had after iui was minor cramping that only lasted an hour or so. I'm super bummed it hasn't happened yet, and I'm feeling like it will never happen. But never give up hope! Lots of people have success with iui just give it time. Way easier said then done though! The 2ww always sucks. Stay busy, do what works for you so that you can take your mind off of it. Good luck!!
  • Good luck to you! I am in my 5th IUI cycle. I had 3 with clomid and am currently on my 2nd with menopur injections. The CM being creamy is from the progesterone for me and I agree with amos1417 it is pretty nasty stuff! haha! The waiting is awful. At least when I doing the shots I feel active in the process. I feel your pain!! I hope this one works for all of us!!
  • Hey Meghan. I have NOT yet had an IUI (first one is scheduled for August) so you can take this comment with a grain of salt. I had an HSG exam done which is another procedure where they tread a catheter through your cervix and into your uterus. I cramped for a full week after that procedure. You could just be irritated from the procedure itself.
  • Thanks Ladies!! I'm just freaking out about this because I want it to work so badly.  Not gonna lie... it's a little discouraging to hear that some of you are on you 3rd-6th round of IUI :(... I'm sending good vibes out to everyone!!
  • Meghan, I have been thinking about you! How are you feeling? Your beta is this week, right?! How exciting!! :)
  • Thanks amos1417! I'm still stressing out, but I'm trying to stay busy. I went to my school today and painted and tomorrow I am going shopping with my mom! I go on Wednesday to see the result. Fingers crossed for a BFP!!!!!
  • It's good to stay busy! Hopefully shopping is keeping your mind off things. Let us know ASAP tomorrow!!
  • I shall! Keep the positive thoughts flowing!!!
  • It didn't work... Hopefully yours does.
  • I am so sorry! My first one didn't work either, but here's to trying again!! I can totally relate to how you are feeling so please don't think you are alone in this! My husband is incredibly loving and caring, as are the rest of my family members, however, they don't know what it's like. They never will really know. I was even ready to give up... but I found the strength to try another cycle. Be strong! You want this too much!! :)
  • Thank you! I appreciate the support! It's been hard but we'll work through it!
  • Meghan, I'm sorry it didn't work. I'm on the 5th day of Bravelle injections. This is my first IUI. I see that many of you are on the 3rd, 4th, 5th try. At what point does the doc start to recommend IVF? My insurance doesn't  cover any of the treatments so we are limited.
  • Mine doesn't cover IVF either. I hope it works for you. I took Femara and the Bravelle and they both did what they were supposed to do... My body just didn't do what it was supposed to do. I'll send good thoughts your way!!
  • I'm sorry @Meghan_098. My insurance doesn't cover IVF either so I have this round and next month's round and then we have to consider our next step. I don't really want to think about that right now, but we've had so many disappointments that I feel like we better start coming up with a plan soon. I hope you get another opportunity for IUI. Prayers for you!

  • Thabks! I really want it to work out for all of us!!
  • I have had many IUIs and IVF cycles and honestly there is no way to tell if it worked until the bloodtest.  Between the drugs and the emotions your head plays tricks on you.  I am currently 5 months pregnant as a result of an IUI and looking back I did not feel any different that my negative cycles.  Just try and stay positive and keep your mind occupied. Best of luck to you!
  • Omg. Congrats!! Gives us all hope. :-)
  • I'm sorry it didn't work Meghan. :(

I haven't had an IUI yet, but I will be having my first one probably next month. I will start Menopur after my next cycle starts and use a trigger shot. I don't have any faith that the first one will work, but I hope the second or third one will. My insurance covers 6 IUIs per live birth. My RE told me that after 3-4 we will explore other options, but I think I'll end up doing all 6 IUIs because IVF is super expensive and we certainly can't afford it.

Good luck to everyone else too, I'm sorry some of you are already on your 6th without success. :( Baby dust to all!

  • @jcgirl1101 - Thanks for posting. It does make me feel better to know that I can't predict based on how I feel. I am in my 2ww and am already going crazy trying to decipher the 'code'. It really is nice to hear that you had success AND that you couldn't tell ahead of time. @AdorkablePixie - Good luck! I always consider myself so fortunate to have 6 IUIs covered by insurance (even though I only have one more left). I see on here so many that don't have that.
  • Getting ready for round 2... Fingers crossed! I'm glad it worked for you @jcgirl1101! It's nice to hear that someone had success !! Hoping that happens here too!
  • Good luck Meghan!! Hope it works.
  • Thanks! Me too lol. With school starting up soon this is the last time I can do this for a while.
  • AMT&THC - Thank you and good luck to you too. I hope this last one will stick for you!!
