Baby Names

Spelling our baby girl's name...

Hi ladies! I'm hoping you can all help us decide. We decided tentatively on a name for our first born. We decided on Kaylee/Kayleigh Aliana.  We can't decide on how to spell Kaylee/Kayleigh though! Any suggestions or opinions? These two spellings are the two we are leaning toward, but we are open to suggestions!

BTW we are trying to keep it starting with a K...

Re: Spelling our baby girl's name...

  • I guess I'd go with Kaylee. But in case you want more options: https://community.babycenter.com/post/a31626247/79_ways_to_spell_kaylee?cpg=6

If this is the name you are sticking with I would do Kaley. I find both double ee endings as well as Leigh to be incredibly juvenile.

This. Kaley. Skip the trendy spellings, they aren't so cool/cute/ unique when you put them on a resume.

It seems like Kaylee is maybe most common, but there are tons of ways to spell it. I guess since it is a name that just popped up in the past couple of decades and has no real heritage, you can really spell it anyway you please. No matter which way you pick, she will probably have to spell it for people her whole life.
  • I actually really like the name when it's spelt Kaley... Otherwise I can't stand it.
  • LOL Not at all. We have our reasons for trying to keep her name starting with the K. Nothing to do with the Jenners (:
  • Kailey Alaina
  • its an awful name no matter how you spell it!
  • magsugar13 what do you not like about it? Do you find it to be too juvenile of a name? Do you prefer a different variation of names? I don't mind you disagreeing but if you have a suggestion that would be much more helpful. Thanks!

  • Since you asked a PP, yes any form of Kaley sounds juvenile and like a forever 4 year old.  If you are looking for other K names what about

    Kendra
    Kara
    Katherine
    Keely
    Kira
    Kiera
    Kimberly
    Kirstin

Thank you for elaborating. I'm not really sold on any of the names you listed though. We were leaning toward Eliana as her first name and trying to decide on a middle name. Her name does not have to start with a K but if we are given the option of C or K, we are going with the K.  We still have a couple of months before she is born. We just finally came up with somewhat of a solid name and wanted to get some feedback.
  • Both of your spellings are bad. Kaley or Kailey looks better, but I really dislike the name for all the same reasons mentioned above. It sounds trendy and juvenile and looks it also, especially spelled as Kaylee.

  • I say stick to what you like who cares what some of these people are saying I know a woman named Kaylee and I take her serious a name doesn't mean age. I like the double e personally maybe because the person I knew was such a sweet heart and I loved her.
  • Kaylee/ Kayleigh are just too cutesy in my opinion. Kaley would be the best spelling, followed by Kailey. Those spellings don't scream "little girl" quite so much.

Obviously OP cares because she came here asking for opinions.

Personally not a fan of the name, but I'd go with the Kaley spelling if you use it. I much prefer Eliana though.
  • Thanks ladies. I am really leaning toward Eliana. I understand what most of you are saying regarding Kaylee/Kayleigh/Kaley being a ''cutesy" name.  Maybe we'll stick with Eliana and work at finding a middle name that fits.

Do you have any family names you'd consider for a mn?

That was the first place I looked for a middle name. Unfortunately, nothing really works well or the name has been overused by other family members.
  • Eliana is gorgeous! Good choice.

  • I really like Eliana too!!
  • I second Eliana Kay, beautiful!
  • Kaley

  • One of the things I don't like about the name Kaylee is that there isn't one common/right way to spell it. Like Kaitlyn, she'll forever be spelling her name for everyone. Just something to think about.

Love Eliana! Eliana Ruth or Rose are my favorites.

Don't use this name. It is way too trendy and doesn't age well at all. I had a boss named Kalee and I had a very hard time taking her seriously. Everyone I said her name to was confused that I was talking about a grown woman. Just don't do it.
This. I had a teacher named Cookie (I know, op.. but they're equally juvenile) and to this day, I can't figure out how she was given the wherewithall to grow up as intelligent and poised as she did.

Because here's the thing op. Intelligence is genetic to some extent but when you grow up with everybody assuming you're an idiot (you know, like if you're a chick named Cookie) you're going to grow up to be a lame person. Because everybody expects it.

Kaylee falls into that category. A name ending in a double-e is maybe a little cute (obnoxious but passable) until she hits puberty. Then she's that chick... That name goes from Cutesy to something a lot worse.. Don't make me say it. You know. Britnee. Kellee. Haylee. Cindee.

    Kaylee.

It's not a sexist thing either. There are lots of boys' names that imply terrible things too.

Give her a fighting chance to be more than that.

It is way too juvenile for a woman. It is cutesy and cutesy is only food on girls under 10. Another problem with the name are there are so many variations. Eliana is a great name, a name that ages well and there wont be 50 of them in the neighborhood. There are so many beautiful elegant names out there.
