Plus-Size Mamas - Check-in

Since I know there are a few fellow plus-size moms-to-be on this site, I would love to check in and see how your pregnancies are going too! Have you felt kicks yet? Has your SO been able to feel the kicks? How much weight have you gained? Can you see a visible bump yet? I have so many Qs lol!

I'll start: I was 245 on the day I found out I am pregnant (5'6") and haven't gained any weight - I've been going back and forth with about 4 lbs. up and down a little each week, and I'm currently 18w5d along and weighing in at 242. My doctor said I could honestly gain NO weight and have a perfectly healthy baby, however I'm setting a personal goal of hopefully no more than 15 lbs by the end of pregnancy. I think (?) I've felt a few flutters, but not 100% sure, and DH hasn't been able to feel anything yet. I feel like I have a little bump, but I'm sort of disappointed that it isn't as "cute" as normal weight moms... I definitely am going to have a B-belly, which doesn't make me want to flaunt my bump as much. So far I still just kind of feel fat and am hoping that I will start to look more pregnant and less like I've just put on more weight in my mid-section. Being pregnant while already overweight is stressful and scary - let's support each other on this post please!

I don't know what u weighed when I fell preggers but I know I was over weight by quite a bit, I also don't know what I weigh now as midwife hasn't weighed me at any point during my pregnancy and my scales don't work, I'm 17 weeks today and have been feeling on and off flutters of baby for about a week and a half, can't see a bump and I have a big belly anyway but I know u have one under there as I can sense/feel it but not by touch or sight if that makes sense?

I weighed 238 pre prego, and am now at 246 at 17w3d. I do not want to go over 20lbs!

I've mostly gained back the 10 pounds from losing it in the first trimester, but nothing more. I'm definitely bigger than I was and its starting to take a bump shape, but I still just look fat. I'm 19w 4d and have felt a few flutters now and then for about a week. I can't wait to feel them a little stronger!

I am plus size.. Having Twins I am 17 weeks 5 days. I have gained about 8lbs.. we are shooting for 15 for the whole pregnancy. I have a noticeable bump on the top (but bottom is still my fat stomach) but this is my second pregnancy! I feel kicks on one side almost every day my DH has not been able to feel them yet though. Good Luck in your pregnancies!

Hey everyone. So I am still down 2 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight as of my last appointment.  I am 20w5d and have had pretty regular kicks for about two weeks now.  DH got to feel them for the first time this weekend and he was very excited.  I still only look fat so that makes me really sad and I hope that once the uterus gets farther above my belly button that I will start to look more pregnant.

I am 19w4d. I haven't gained anything yet. I'm hoping to stay under 15 lbs. last pregnancy I only gained 16 and weighed less so I'm hoping to keep it low. I have felt some kicks. DH hasn't been able to feel anything yet. I definitely have a bump now but I feel like it just looks like chub but DH says it's definitely a bump.

I'm 20 weeks 4 days and I was 246 when I found out I was pregnant. Last appointment I was 245. I didn't have much of an appetite the first trimester and I started to eat better too. My appetite has come back full force now though so I expect to gain all my weight pretty soon. I have felt some kicks but I have an anterior placenta so it'll be a while before DH feels anything. I don't really have much of a bump yet... I can feel my uterus at my belly button and can tell my stomach is getting bigger, but no cute bump :((

    Plus size mommies rock!!
I was 300 pre pregnancy and have lost 25 lbs. With the help of Zofran and 2nd trimester I am able to eat a bit more, though I still don't really like food. I am 16w 5d and have felt one little flutter. No bump, B or otherwise, just my normal cushion. I have decided that I will never have a "cute" bump and may never look pregnant but in less than 6 months I will have a baby so I'm good with it!

I am 19w3d and I have been loosing weight in the beginning (did not have mornig sickness at all) I am carrying twins boys. I was at 202 and got down to 196 but last week and this week actually started coming back and back up to 199. I have been worried about weight loss but Dr hasnt said anything about it so I should be good. I do have a bump I think that has a lot to do with twins its not a huge bump to me but I had my reveal party Saturday and everyone basically said things like "how I haven't seen you since you got so round" or "uep you have popped" I didn't take any offense to it I was just thinking wow I am glad I am not overly emotional about my size. Lol the things people say to pregnant women. My best friend just found out she is prego with her 2nd and is not even 6 weeks yet but she was at the store and cashier asked her if she knew if it was a boy or girl yet.

Congrats ladies!! What about maternity clothing? I'm STRUGGLING to find things I like that are available in an 18/2x! I've ordered a few things from Old Navy, but it's hard enough just to find cute plus size clothing, let alone plus size maternity! Anyone had luck anywhere else?

I basically wear maxi dresses. They are comfortable but offer zero support for the belly so I told DH we need to go shopping.

Hi ladies - I'm 18 weeks with my second baby. I definitely have a bump but the top half is just fat that has been displaced by the baby. I tend to grow straight out though - I have a short torso so not really anywhere else to go. The pic is 8 months with my first baby.

Edited because this app is stupid and keeps cutting off my comments - this is the 3rd time!!!!!!

Hi all... Plus sized mamma here too... 5'4 and 190 with twins! At first appt my dr said no more than 20 pounds... But now it's like you're just gonna gain weight mostly in the 3rd tri after we found out its twins. Still can't have sweets but I'm not craving them either thankfully. I went to Ross last week and got a couple 2x shirts that didn't have any 'shape. ' I already look preggers with a big round belly

    Target and Old Navy! <3

I'm 19w0d, and I have lost about 5-8lbs since getting pregnant. :) I weighed 213 today at my appointment. My doc said it's fine. She's not concerned at all about loss or gain. She said the main thing is to just be healthy and take care of myself. :)

I fit into regular sized clothes, but the BMI charts say I'm obese. Sadface. I still haven't lost the baby weight from DD, we just weaned two weeks ago when I was at 15 weeks. I'm still the same as my pre-pregnancy weight, and I think that's okay. I have a bump, but I just look fat unless I wear something tight that makes it obvious it's a bump. I just starting feeling flutters and tiny kicks this week, some might still be gas.  Last time I had an anterior placenta, but I feel movement earlier this time, so I'm not sure if I have that again. I wear mostly elastic waist skirts with a tighter top or a maxi dress. Trying to go to the gym 3x a week, but really it's more like 1-2x a week.

I'm basically living in yoga pants... I have lots of them from old navy and two pairs of jeans, one long and one cropped. The T's I have already will work, they're loose anyway, I bet they will be fine until the bitter end, haha! But I'll probably get some long sleeve shirts and sweaters in the fall... Old Navy of course. Actually I went to Motherhood Maternity outlet last week and hit the clearance rack... They had long sleeved stuff there for a steal and they were buy 2 get 1 free on top of the good deal! I got 3 shirts/sweaters for $40. All 2X

I am 5'11" and was 265 at pre-pregnancy. I've lost 5lbs and am 19w 1d with my first. I do have a bump but it has a dent where my belly button is... I feel like the top I'd just fat and the bottom might be baby.

I am worried that I haven't really felt much though and that makes me sad. I hope bring overweight won't prevent me from feeling the baby move and grow. I have a friend who is due 3 days behind me with her second and talks all the time about feeling kicks and movement. I'm mostly jealous.

I'm 5'5" and was 325 when I got pregnant. I've lost 18lbs so far just from lack of appetite. I'm doing my best not to gain it back or gain as little as possible. I carry most of my weight in my butt and thighs so my tummy actually does looks different, more round for sure. For pants I just buy the Old Navy plus roll up yoga pants. They're perfect for going over the bump. Shirts I just stick with basic tank tops with an open cardigan on top. Done. Easiest to pull off.

I was 245 pre preggo and am now 247.  I'm 18w 5d. My ob wants me to go to a specialist that help obese women loose weight while pregnant since I'm "high risk" and being obese just adds more problems.  I do want to be healthy but haven't gone (no judging please!).

    I have felt nothing!

I think I have the dreaded B belly.  My baby bump has pushed my regular tummy fat up causing my clothing to be all bumpy.

I think its so interesting how labeling something forms a stigma about it. This is my first pregnancy, I was 179 pre-preg. Haven't weighed myself since to be honest but until I read this thread I didn't know what a b-belly was. I had to google.

I guess I might have a small version of it, I definitely have a bump at 19w5d (I didn't carry my weight in my belly) but it has a bit of a flatness near my belly button so definitely no D but I didnt think anything of it. Figured it was how my body works lol I don't think its something so dreadful to be worried about.

Then again I hate everything about being pregnant so maybe it all just matters less to me. its been nothing but the worst inconvenience. I wish I could just have my baby now ❤ instead I'm eagerly counting down days :D

Feel big, and bigger and yucky.  Starting to feel movement and starting to show.  Dh did think he felt a few twitches from the outside a few days ago.

ANYWAY, those tee shirt maxi skirts that are just big tubes are amazing for growing bumps.  The waist is just more tee shirt tube.   Love, love them.  They are cool and comfortable and soft and I feel sort of put together when I wear them to work with a fitted top and chunky jewelry.

Love this thread! I am 19wk5days, FTM, and just look my normal chunky. I have found some great deals on the clearance rack at Old Navy. Lots of maternity skirts/dresses in XXL that are plenty big (I'm 2X or 22/24) for under/around $10. I feel things but I'm not quite sure if/when it's the baby. I've gained around 2.5 lbs and Doctor said I needed to gain no more than 15 total. (I've stayed close to 250.)

I'm a second time mom. Started at 240. Still around there give or take 5lbs. I'm 19 weeks with baby girl. I have always been a bigger girl with a flatter stomach, just a mommy pouch from my son 6 years ago. I was so huge and I carried him so low I'm surprised I didn't explode. I am so huge this time already, my husband compares me now to my 6 month pictures with our son. I have people loving on my belly and i hate it. I have an anterior placenta but baby is laying transverse and I have been feeling movement since 14 weeks and hubby feels baby on the sides of my belly since 15 weeks. Right now my belly button indents just a bit but I think it will round out.

This is my fourth.  I started out at 254 and I am now 243.  I am almost 20 weeks.  I have very little appetite this time around.  I have never gained over 20 pounds with any of my pregnancies.  I am usually gained most of my weight after 20 weeks.  I am hoping to only gain to my pre-pregnancy weight this time around.

I have found some pretty good clothing at JC Penney as far as maternity clothes go.  Reasonably priced and most are pretty cute.

I have a bump...in fact, I feel like I am closer to 30 weeks.  I feel the baby from time to time but I have an anterior placenta right now.  I felt movement earlier but my placenta has moved since then.  I really can't see or feel them when I put my hand on my stomach.

Hi everyone. I am a FTM at 20 w 5 days. I was between 225-229 when I found out I was pregnant. I have lost and gained back and forth between those numbers since then. My doctor says I've gained 4 lbs. idk. I am definitely showing. I can feel so much movement, but everytime I try to feel it with my hand on my belly all I feel is my heart beat. I wish DH could feel kicks. Hopefully soon.

Hello, ladies. This is my first pregnancy. My pre-pregnancy weight was 219; I'm currently 18 weeks 1 day and have gained 3 pounds. My doctor said she isn't super worried about weight and said to just keep walking and eating well. I was super nervous that my weight would be an issue with my pregnancy, but she assured me that as long as I stay responsible that I'll be fine.

I am definitely showing, too and I LOVE it. It's like all of my self-consciousness has gone away and I'm just loving my body and the fact that it's growing a little baby inside it. :)  I have been getting 90% of my clothes (and the coziest ones) at Motherhood Maternity. I have found that most stores don't have maternity clothes in stock... our JC Penny, Sears, and such don't carry them. I have gotten a few items at Kohl's, too.

I haven't been able to feel any definite movement yet; however, I do think that I felt a flutter this past weekend. :)

Hi Ladies! Plus sizes mama here. I was 247 when I found out I was prego with #2. I have a B belly for sure. Top half is hard and looks like part of a bump but bottom still looks and feels like flab. Definitely been feeling lots of flutters and a few kicks. Hubby hasn't felt them yet. I will be 21 weeks tomorrow.

Im a plus size mama expecting my 3rd boy. Ive gained 2lbs so far and im 19wks3days. I normally will go up and down all throughout my pregnancies. With my 1st my total weigh gain was 3lbs and 6lbs with my second. I have started feeling the baby move regularly but not strong enough to feel from the outside. My husband didnt feel my other boys move until 28 weeks or so.

I super appreciate even knowing that I'm not the only one. I was 217 pounds when first got pregnant (I'm 5'1") and haven't gained any weight. I have a bump, but just like you said I struggle with just feeling fat. A "B" belly is hard to love but I'm getting okay with the extra bigness. I wear a belly band almost every day to try to help smooth things out and it helps a little. (Only$18 at target!) I'm just glad everybody is healthy.

Did any of you get sent to a high risk for weight? I'm 5'6 and weigh 215. Im at 18 wks 4 days and have only gained 1lb. I've gotta see a high risk dr because of weight and asthma, and they have been concerned about both. I'm allowed to gain 25lbs.

They haven't done anything special with me because of my weight. Haven't had to do the glucose test early and they haven't said anything about my weight either. I'm in Kentucky, so I'm pretty much the normal weight around here =))

My midwife says that I am a low risk pregnancy due to my age and no existing medical issues with myself or Family. I think I put enough pressure and worry on myself being plus size and oregnant. It would send me over the edge if they old me I was high risk and needed to see a specialist... Then again, I've lost 25lbs since getting pregnant do maybe that is a factor.

I had to do the glucose test early because of family history. It turned out fine. They are making me do the1 hour again in a couple weeks. I haven't been sent to high risk. I do have asthma as well, but only exercise induced. I haven't had to use my inhaler for a while. Good luck with that. I wonder if Lamaze would help with controlling a chance of an asthma attack during labor?

Hey ladies! Plus size mama here :) I was 263 when I found out & am 275 now at 19 weeks, 1 day. Have felt a few little flutters, but they've been very sporadic. I have my big ultrasound today, although we already found out its a boy <3 I definitely have a bump, and being my 2nd pregnancy, i feel like it's actually pretty bump-like! I'm being followed by a MFM doctor for kidney & BP issues, so I'm just praying all goes smoothly.

Hi! I was 265 when I found out and have gained about 10 pounds overall. I am 21 w 1 day. The Dr. was concerned at my appointment a few days ago because I gained about 7 pounds of the 10 in just the last month. I don't feel like I have been over eating...maybe a few too many indulgences, so watching a little more closely now. I have the "b" belly...people think the baby is where all of my fat was relocated to. Oh well.

I was sent to a specialist as "possible high risk" because of age (will be 37 at delivery), but all of the testing and my overall health readings have been great, so the dr seems to feel I'm pretty normal now.
