Ok so LO has a few chins going on and formula gets into her creases. We are good about cleaning but the skin folds in general are red and shiny due to friction or lack of air or something. Does anyone else have this issue, and do you put anything topical on the creases? Not sure if that would actually make it worse...

I had one of my worst fears realized last night. We packed up the family and the dog and we're headed to my parents house 4 hours away. It's a slow start with rush hour traffic and stopping to get gas and food. LO was passed out in the back seat with a tummy full of milk and DS was having a blast with his trucks. We head into the mountains and get stuck in traffic only to have the car break down. So here we are in the center median pull off lane with an broken ass truck and cars suddenly whizzing by at 75 mph. Road side assistance activated and we called family and friends to come and rescue the dog and myself and the two kids. DH stayed with the truck and waited for the tow truck. Sitting in the truck like a fish in a barrel praying that no one would hit us....then transferring two car seats and two kids with traffic flying by into a friends truck. It's not for the faint of heart. The state patrol we called showed up moments after we were all buckled in. We all made it home safe and sound. Not the excitment I was hoping to have this weekend.

Yikes! I'm glad you all made it safe!

Well, I did it. I mowed the lawn, and in doing so got a look down there. X_X

Not as bad as all that, but it wasn't a heartening sight, either. My poor lady bits

Could not, for the life of me, figure out why you looked down there to mow your lawn. Thought hard about both a push mower, then a riding mower.

And then I felt so dumb. And tired and sad and super amused!!
You got me laughing while LO is on the boob! He totally was giving me the side eye like 'stop shaking my food! Its hard enough as it is! Sheez! Some people!'

@hoodoll82 LO had something like that in his neck rolls on one side last week or so. When you pulled his neck rolls taut you could see an area where it was pink and looked a bit like the area underneath when you have a shallow blister and it pops. Not real red, but pink and new. Maybe ours isn't / wasn't as bad as yours, I wouldn't have called the color red (tho it was closer to red than the rest of his skin for sure). Anyways, we just made sure to pull the rolls apart and wipe in there with a cool washcloth a few times a day for a couple days and it went on its own. Interested to see what other people say, tho, as I'm sure it will probably happen again

  • @hoodoll82 @mellymar I don't know what to do with her Michelin man rolls. They get that redness and also start to smell like old cheese. I wash her rolls every other day but then she sweats..wish I could use baby powder.

  • @hoodoll82 @dancegurl1118 yeah I've considered baby powder too, but I thought it would just and up becoming a paste in there from whatever was causing the problem in the first place. I try to keep myself content by checking his neck rolls when he nurses and if I see gunk in there I use a wipe to get it out of there before it can have a chance to become gunky. I thought for awhile it was spit up that rolled down there when I wasn't quick enough with the spitty blanket, so now when he spits up I wipe that area regardless of if I thought some went that way or not, and that has seemed to help new areas from starting (for now)

    @dancegurl1118 how is your dog?

The new Johnson & Johnson brand powder is corn starch, not talc. The cheap brands are still talc. I use powder occasionally on DS. I wouldn't use it near the face, but as long as they're not breathing in a cloud of dust, corn starch is nontoxic.
  • @Sammy K thanks for the heads up! I will buy some!

@mellymar the same :( he's on round the clock muscle relaxers and NSAID with no change. No pacifier seen on xray or digital exam, vet said clinical picture not consistent with a foreign object. Still won't lift his tail and screeches like we're beating him when he poops. It's either his doggy tail bone or his tail...vet said just to give it some time to see if it will heal. I cry every time he poops.

@dancegurl1118 I missed the post about your dog, but that sounds awful!! I hope he gets better soon.
  • @dancegurl1118 I'm really sorry to hear that. Poor guy. Definitely he is going to need to rest so try to encourage him to not do too much jumping on and off furniture or too much being active. He may not feel like doing those things now, but once he begins to feel better he will and you guys will have to hold him back as well you can so he can finish healing and not re-injure himself. He must've pulled a muscle in his back / tail area - pretty common for dogs to tweak their backs. I hope the meds bring him some relief soon.

  • Thanks ladies! I'll keep on keeping her rolls clean and dry... And maybe try the non-talc powder if I get really concerned. Jut glad to know its normal for our chunky babies :)

Speaking of powder...if anyone's interested MD Moms makes a liquid powder. A little pricey but it works great.

@hoodoll82 maybe a little late, but for future reference, I just had this happen in LO's neck/collarbone roll, and I dabbed Desitin on it, and it was gone by the next morning. It went from bruise-red to baby pink by the next morning, applied a little more, and by that afternoon it was back to normal.
  • Thanks @kkdb14 ! I was considering dabbing Aquaphor as well. I probably overstated it - it's not RED red, just pink from being virgin skin that doesn't get much exposure since it's fold. :)
  • I'm starting to get some weird period cramps. Ugh can't wait to see what a period looks like when you haven't had one in about 11 months ugh
  • I put some butt paste on the irritated fold skin which helped calm it down, I bought some non-talc powder too. It's just so hard to get in those creases though!

  • @hoodoll82 Desitin works for us too on the roll creases. I also had to use it on the armpit creases, too. Girl hates when I try to stretch her rolls out to clean under them.
  • Just had my paragard put in and I'm pretty sure I've started my period. Damn doctor. I blame her.
