Unpopular Opinions!

Re: Unpopular Opinions!

  • I feel like the silent grammar police. I bite my tongue every time someone says "your" instead of "you're", " its" instead of "it's", and don't get me started on there, they're, or their. Seriously, people, did you pass 8th grade?

Yeah I used to judge. But my phone autocorrects to the wrong your/you're Every Single Time and sometimes I miss it and look like an idiot, so now I have more sympathy.

  • One reason the sex/gender police piss me off so much is that this is a North American thing. In other English speaking countries like the UK gender is entirely correct and means your physical bits. If you have a question that says Sex? on a form in Britain people will answer "yes please". So give over. Its not a universal truth.

    Ahhh noo.

Cool story, thanks for playing. You know UO is for Thursday, maybe Friday, right? It's pretty obvious you showed up just to stir sh*t.

Another fun story. My previous doctor had a box on intake forms that said "sex: M/F" and "gender: M/F". Brilliant practice. Sorry to hear you're behind the times.

I'm going to have to agree with Potatocastillo here; I roll my eyes every time I witness the comments of these social justice warriors. As a scientist I feel fairly confident in asserting that I am neither uneducated nor uncultured, simply, until you can show me evidence that these individuals are hardwired in a manner more akin to the sex opposite their birth designation I will view this as a psychological phenomenon our culture is perpetuating.

Of course, my opinion will fall on deaf ears since the majority of American women attempt to play ostrich when it comes to data that points to innate biological difference in the sexes beyond reproductive organs.

I'm one female that agrees with you. No need to flaunt your social science education for the rest of us. I actually get annoyed by those who like to "correct" everything. Sometimes it's helpful but some don't know how say things tactfully.
  • Bump admin seems to think it's perfectly okay to continue to stir the pot and debate something that shouldn't be debated so continue!

  • I thought I would look it up rather than making assumptions.  I get that Wikipedia is not the authoritative source but: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_and_gender_distinction I thought it was an interesting read with quite a few references.   I also found this published from a UK source: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/232363.php.  Regardless of the articles, I tend to agree with the sentiment that sex and gender are different. It does seem weird to say sex reveal because I think we're used to saying gender reveal.  I think it is considerate of the parent to distinguish.  For me, I want a happy healthy child. I can car less on what sex it is or what gender it relates to.

I think circumcision is a cruel and out dated practice. It drives me nuts that people still believe it's for hygiene purposes, and even more nuts when their only justification for doing it, is so "they aren't different from their father". Ugg!

Right?! Not touching this with a ten foot pole.

PS, it's weird to resurrect old UO threads like this...

Anything for some drama I guess.

  • It was at the top of my list of discussions this morning. If they are only for certain days, maybe they could be taken down after that day.

  • It goes to the top when someone bumps it by commenting on it. The general etiquette is to stop commenting on these specific day posts after 48 hours I believe, especially if the thread is dead and buried. It's a better idea to wait until the next post is started. image

  • Just playing devil's advocate here, but the comment in question was within that 48 hour period if the post was for Thursday/Friday.

My computer is showing it was posted this morning, Tuesday, at 12:11 am.

Edit to add: so it was meant for comments on Thursday and maybe some overflow into Friday.

  • Weird...mine says July 19th. Oh well. It would probably be best if the thread was locked or something after a certain day.

If only we still had individual board mods then we could easily do that. Bump mods are too busy.. :/

  • Only the bump mods can do that so the best thing to do is not revive dead threads and let then stay buried and not keep bumping them so I'm leaving this thread now.

  • Who gives a crap what day the thread started? Read it, don't read it. It's your choice. No-one is forcing you to be here.

Or to comment... about people commenting.... on a thread that is too old for them to comment on but not too old for your comment about not commenting.

Glad we cleared that up, I'm off to unstack the dishwasher.
