Any moms to be work in EMS?

Anyone else work in EMS/Fire dept? It's a unique world so it'd be nice to have a place to chat!

    I work in the fire protection field (engineer) but not with the fire department. That said, I absolutely know what you mean about it being a unique world :)

    I do! I work as an EMT on a 911 ambulance in a high volume system. I am now part time since my first child but I worked 24 hr shifts until I was almost 7 months pregnant last time! What do you do @mrsburkins ?

    Not fitting in your categories but I doubt anyone else is law enforcement around here. Love my job but hating having to leave the road in a week!

    Not EMS/fire either but a 911 dispatcher with family in LE and lots of friends on the EMS/fire side.

    I'm a probation officer. I have no idea how this is going to work for me in the field haha. But I guess we shall see!

    @JessKo08 - I love ER nurses! I'm planning on going to nursing school in a few years after the little ones are a little older. Nursing is definitely the way to go imo :)

    I'm a Paramedic working for the fire dept (911 system obv). Just wondering how long you ladies plan to stay on the road before going to light duty. I have the option to go on light duty as early as I'd like. Love my job so don't want to leave the road but also want to put baby first!

    I've been a firefighter/paramedic since 2003 and this is my first pregnancy. Right now, I am on light duty due to a shoulder injury that required surgical repair. I am anticipating that when I finally get the "all clear" for full duty following therapy and rehab, I'll be placed right back on light duty for baby. I love my job so much and I want to return to active duty, but I also want to do whats best and put baby first!

    ER Nurse over here and husband is a police officer! So not directly fire/EMS but we sure love our first responders :)

    I worked until I was about 6.5 months along. I was a FTO so I always had a trainee to help with the lifting. I probably would've went to light duty sooner than that but I was having major issues with HR giving me light duty! @mrsburkins it sounds like you work for a fire dept and not a private ambulance (like I do) so you probably won't have that issue.

    Also, have you told your crews yet? I feel like they should know for safety reasons (aside from the fact that we spend 25% of our life with them) but still worried it's too soon.

    I haven't. It's totally up to you when you want to tell them. Last time I didn't tell anyone besides my partner and trainee until I was about 5 months along. Pretty much when it became obvious lol.

    I'm an EMT also and am trying to figure out what's safe to lift. I mean if you constantly were lifting people before you should be safe right? I've heard people working up to 8 months in the field but some people are concerned that I lift so much. Any thoughts?

    The biggest thing is listening to your body. I worked in the field until 6.5 months and around that time, it was starting to get really rough. I just knew it was time to go to light duty. You can also ask your Dr on what he/she thinks but mine told me 20 weeks. I felt fine around that time so didn't listen to my doctor advice. :-$

    I'm a PCP currently working as a Film Set Medic. Glad I'm not on the road right now... Was all set to start Nursing school in January but this little Peach is gonna put a hold on things!!
