I win - Not really but I just had my 9th ultrasound at 12w 3d. We did IVF, started as probable miscarriage and now I have an SCH (sub chrionic hematoma) which has caused a ghastly amount of bleeding. We also had a lot of ultrasounds with our DS also a fertility baby and lost the heartbeat at 7weeks, then I became high risk and had ultrasounds every week for a good long while. Our DS is a happy healthy 3.5 yr old, try to relax there are so many things to worry about. Try not to dwell on what you can't control and also what is mainly conjecture.
TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck
Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man. Born 12/2/11
TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended
Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good. Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.
Thank you all for your feedback and reassurance! As a surprised FTM to begin with, it's hard to know what to expect going into this and what sort of information to weed out.
My first ultrasound was at 5.5 weeks to check the cause of ongoing spotting (unknown), then I had a bleeding episode at 7 weeks 3 days where they did another one (still couldn't find the cause of the bleed). Then at 8 weeks my OB did a quick in-office ultrasound (less than 5 mins), and she did the same at 13.5 weeks. My 5th ultrasound won't be until the anatomy scan at 18 weeks 2 days, but I will let the doctor know that unless there is a pressing medical issue requiring it, I would like to pass on any future ultrasounds. I do realize there is a lot of speculation out there so I will try to remain calm and just focus on relaxing for myself and baby
My doctor has a flat rate for taking care of a pregnant woman through the delivery. They charge extras for some types of tests, but not for ultrasounds.
I'm 13 weeks...I've had 6 already as I had a history of miscarriage (4 in a row) before this pregnancy. My fertility clinic did one from weeks 5-8 then my regular OB did one at 10 and the NT one at 12. I have the anatomy scan scheduled for 20. With my history, the ultrasounds have given me peace of mind--being able to see my little nugget move around and hear her heartbeat (I had the fetal DNA blood test @ 10 weeks so I know it's a girl) has allowed me to relax a bit. I think a lot of info gets thrown around and sometimes it's hard to determine what should concern us.
Hi, I'm 12 weeks and 5 days I've had three so far this pregnancy due to recurrent loss, I only had one with DD at 20 weeks but considering this is pregnancy #5 I'm okay with knowing and seeing my little one is doing okay in there
I've had none, at 15 weeks, and will only plan to have 1, at 18-20 weeks. I've read several of the smaller scale studies that have shown small increased risks for a few issues, and so I'm being overly cautious about it. For me it was also a matter of wanting to know the benefit of each ultrasound. I specifically wanted to avoid early ultrasounds because it is so common to be off a few days in your measurements and I knew that would freak me out and aend me into a panic about there being something wrong when chances are everything was fine. Getting the anatomy scan done, which can detect issues that might be able to be fixed, or alert you to problems you can do so ething about at the time of delivery made sense to me, whereas for us early scans didn't seem to have much actual need, as there aren't alot of issues that you can do anything about, so why learn about them, especially as many resolve on their own. I'm such a high stress person I found it easier to assume everything was fine until I know differently, unless there is so ething I could do about it. If you and your doctor have a different list of pros and cons and the ultrasounds are necessary or better for your specific circumstances, then you shouldn't beat yourself up about having them done. The studies that have shown increased risk show a relatively small risk, and like everything with pregnancy you can drive yourself crazy with all the what ifs.
I have had 2 so far (typical 1st and one other to check on a bleed), one at 18 for the cervical length, another at 20. My doctors office is now doing them at 36 weeks to check the size and overall health of baby. Anyone else having this? They didn't do this with DD (who is only 15 months old) so I'm just curious to see how typical this is. Don't get me wrong I'm excited about it so they see the size and don't let me go too late which results in another 10 lb baby!
At almost 16 wks and I've had 3 so far (4 wks to rule out ectopic), 7 wk dating, 12 wk NT. Going to get an elective one at 17 wks to find out gender with our family before we move and anatomy scan at 19 wks. I'm not worried about it. I'd get more too if the doctor wanted.
I am 14w today. I've had 4: 8 &9 weeks by MFM and OB for dating, 12w for NT and 13w for cvs (which was 4 short scans - 2 before, one during and one after).
1 at 9 weeks. I'll have another for an anatomy scan and that should be it! Even after a previous loss the doctors are confident I would have a healthy pregnancy and I'm 14 weeks now, so far so good! And to those who are worried about several ultrasounds, or anything else regarding autism perhaps the rise in autism isn't a rise at all. It's possible with today's medicine and technology we are just able to diagnose it more
I've had 2 so far; dating us at 6w and one just to check on the baby at 8 or 9 weeks. My dr. said that I'll have extra scans because of my history but the only one I have scheduled so far is the AS. I had three with my ds; dating, as and one because of continued bleeding in the 3rd tri. He ended up coming early but is a perfectly happy, healthy baby who has almost caught up with his peers already!
