Re: Finding out the Gender

  • We won't be team green until we have one of each and even then I don't know if I could convince DH to do it.

  • I'd rather know as early as possible. It'll be a surprise enough to see the baby.

My mom told me about when she was pregnant with my brother, she tried to not find out the sex, but a nurse spoiled it for her. She took one look at the ultrasound then said "I know what it isss!" My mom knew it had to be a boy for the nurse to know at a glance like that. So much for team green.

  • I must be slow. I don't get it, blueeyedrose.
  • Exactly. ^

  • The second I find out I'm buying the gender decorations =). I went yesterday crib shopping and I'm so excited to find out to get the room ready.

I want to find out the sex as soon as I can, just because I am too curious. Not that it makes a difference to me.

I never understood people who say waiting until the baby is born makes it a surprise... it's a surprise either way, even when you find out at the ultrasound -_-

DH and I waited to find out the sex with DD and the moment we did (after hours of labor) was truly amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I think we might do it again but we have yet to discuss it. It was a very cool experience.

Same for us! We were team green with DD and having my husband tell me we had a daughter when she was born was a really special moment for us, so we are team green again!

I wanted my DH to be the one to tell me what sex our baby was and when she came out, the doctor and nurses had her hands all on her because she came out with the cord around her neck. He couldn't see what she was! So, I'm laying there with my legs wide open, staring at him and waiting for him to tell me what she was lol. I was like, "Ummm, hello?" He couldn't see anything because of their hands so the doctor was the one to yell, "It's a girl!" I feel like I may want to wait just so that I can have DH be the one to tell me this time lol

We will def find out the sex! Can't wait!
  • Just want to say I voted for finding out gender, but not by choice :) We were team green the first time by my urging, so I promised DH he could have his way this time and find out. Otherwise I'd totally love being team green again. So much fun having the doctor announce what the baby was at that moment, and made the anticipation of birth even more exciting (not the labor, just the coming out prt of course).

    Anniversary

  • I would not make it being team green, so I can't wait to find out what LO is.

I will be finding out. It's like I don't even need the doctor to call though, I am fully expecting this to be my 4th daughter.

  • Still undecided! I totally see the excitement of being team green but I don't really get the point of not knowing when the info is there. Also I feel like it would just make me more anxious not to know, even though I would be happy with a boy or a girl (just want a healthy baby!)
On the other hand, I know that if we find out we won't be telling anyone, and that will be really hard because I can't lie. Ever. So I might be better off not knowing...
  • We are team green so I don't have to answers prying questions about "oh will you try for boy/girl next time then?!" "Is that what you wanted?" And not wanting a room full of gifts based on sex....would rather just have baby gear and a few essential clothes and we can buy towards their personality later.

We will not be finding out the sex. I do not want people only giving us pink or blue items just because of the baby's sex. I figure the longer I can put that off, the better.

The surprise of a strange and new human being coming out of my body will be enough for one day. =)

More power to everyone who also waits for the sex to be a surprise in the delivery room!

Totally agree! While I admire all of you can wait, I think the birth itself provides enough surprises. So I love to have this surprise a bit earlier on.

  • Are you kidding me?  I'm a planner.  So's my husband.  We also need to know if we only need to replace the 0-9 month boy clothes we got rid of because our second was our absolute last or if we need to buy a whole new wardrobe.

We were team green with our 2nd and it was great. It felt like the outside noise from overbearing grandparents we had the first time around was more restricted. Plus I didn't go crazy buying clothes. We now have two boys, and I'm pretty sure this is our last, so I can't wait to see if I get to keep all my old outfits or start buying pink and making hair bows! I'll miss the surprise of finding out when baby is born though, it was very fun and a good experience for us to wait :)
  • Man...these team green comments have me thinking about it again! Not sure I could actually do it...but with one of each I guess this would be the time to do it!

  • I wanted to be team green but my H does not, and I don't think he could avoid letting it slip some point, so we'll be finding out the sex. Idk about telling people once we find out though.

I also like the idea of team green but the temptation would be too much!! I definitely see the appeal of not having everyone know the sex, so maybe we will find out but keep it a secret between the two of us.
  • Team green this time around! We're so excited to find out the day he or she is born! I think it'll give me a little extra motivation the day of. (last time I was in active labor for three days and I told the doctor I was done, giving up, and the baby could just stay inside me forever!)

We were team green the first time and it was great but my husband can't handle it again. I owe him from last time, so this one we'll find out. We won't do gendered decorations or clothes anyway, so who cares, says I.

Team Green for all!  It's awesome, when you find out when the baby comes out!  My thoughts are, no matter what the baby is, it is not going to change how I parent, people usually get you clothes after the baby is born, and the nursery can be neutral or you can decorate after the baby is born. :-)
  • I think if I had it my way, I'd find out the sex (props to those who have mentioned it being different from gender) but not tell anyone. That way I could know, but avoid getting a ton of gendered stuff for it.

But my SO really wants it to be a surprise, so I'm going to let him have that one! The idea is growing on me.

  • I will be finding out as soon as possible because I am super impatient. We found out DS was a boy at 15 weeks.
