Just to give you some reassurance, even though i'd say @rhonash's input is probably the most valuable here, typically the ultrasound technician will point out abnormalities at the sam etime. There's usually a feed of the images to the doctors. My doctor and the ultrasound technician may look at things outside the room. And the doctor would come in, talk to me about it and leave, but i don't actually see her reviewing the pictures. So just because it didn't happen in the room, it doesn't mean your doc didn't take a look.

I have to disagree with you, in Canada our techs are NOT allowed to state if their are abnormalities. They aren't qualified to share this information. We have to review with our doctors after the scan. Not sure if it's different where you are but we won't get that information here unless it's from the Doc.

Also just to clarify scans are done at a clinic here(usually) with no Doctor present.
I should clarify. I meant that at least in my case, it's rare that you won't know for any abnormalities the same day. My first baby did have an abnormality and the ultrasound technician did not say anything at the scanning but left the room and came back with the doctor. I didn't mean she points it out as she goes along. They are not allowed to do that here either. But I've never been in a situation or heard of anyone leaving the ultrasound clinic and getting a call later that there's an abnormality.

I do my ultrasounds at a separate clinic than my OB too but there's a doctor on call there too to contribute if anything comes up on the scans the same day.
Thanks for the clarification, unfortunately here in Canada well where I am anyways there aren't doctors at the U.S. Clinic just technicians and then they send your results to your doctor. It's going to be hard to not over analyze the appointment and then have to wait for a call if anything is abnormal but this entire pregnancy has taught me more patience.

  • Anyone seen this?? It's a story on the web right now. This pregnant woman saw a photo of her "deceased grandmother" in her ultrasound. So creepy. She thought it was cool though.

Ack. That freaks me out. Can't sleep now.
