  • I have been working up the nerve to admit this to you all, so I hope to remain a part of your community when I do...

    I'm a dog person.

For those of you who are cat people, you must know something I don't. I've yet to meet a cat that doesn't make me nervous!

I have a love/hate relationship with this post @BoomBarian. It is scary accurate to my current feelings about cats. It also makes me laugh :)

@FrozenMommy Yes! My mom is the only one of her siblings with biological children, and two of them (one aunt, one uncle) are seemingly never happy when something great happens for my sister and I! Neither one went to my sister's wedding and didn't so much leave a card at ours.
I didn't attend my cousins wedding, because she said kids were not allowed, oh wait, except for 2 babies, her besties 2 kids (7 & 9) who were "attendants" and her nephew who was the ring bearer....anyhooo.

Eating organic does not mean eating healthy. image
@anorthro I just went to get a little snack and decided on a couple of lemon wafers from Whole Foods. Then I saw the big green bar across the front of the box that says "Organic" and thought of this. :( So guilty.
  • My first UO is that I really don't like la croix sparkling water. I want to like it since it's better than drinking pop but I just don't. My second is that it really bugs me when people refer to the president as Obama or Mr. Obama. I find it disrespectful.
I felt this way for a while too and remember thinking it was disrespectful to the position to refer to the president as anything other than "President Obama."  Someone told me that technically, his formal title is "Mr. President" or "Mr. Obama."  I am not sure who makes those rules but it made me feel a little bit better about it!  I started noticing in TV shows and movies that characters usually use "Mr. President" and while those are of course just fiction, I think they are often trying to be as accurate as possible.  Anyhoo, I'm not an expert by any means, just thought I'd pass on what I had heard!  As a military wife, most people around me refer to him as "The Commander-in-Chief!"

  • @OperaSingerMommy I didn't know that! It just seems so casual. This is the first presidency of my adulthood so I wasn't sure if it was just President Obama or all presidents get called mister or just by their last name.
  • @shannond21228

I agree that is sounds too casual!  It bothered me for a long time too.  I'm still with you regarding people just saying "Obama."  Although, I don't think most people mean any disrespect... most of us just don't think about it!

  • @OperaSingerMommy It catches me off guard more when its on the news rather than in day to day conversation. But I definitely agree most people don't think about it.

aprosch my birthday is Oct 29 and my birthday parties have been Halloween themed my whole life! I always hated that EVERYONE got to dress up on my birthday too!

Even on my big birthday's.. I never once felt like the center of attention. So BOO you Halloween!

October 26th here. I am SO SICK of my birthday always being a costume party, or always having to move my birthday party around halloween parties. People have them for 3 weekend in October. Why do people love Halloween so much as adults? You can have a costume party any night of the year. Ugh.

    We are birthday twins!!
:x Honestly though the only Halloween party I've ever had was in 3rd grade. No one wanted to dress up because it was before Halloween, 9 year old logic I guess. It was a bust. My birthday and the "holiday" have always been exclusively separate in my world.

I absolutely love Halloween though. I have a thing for traditions and I have only good memories from Hallows eve. I enjoy the history behind it as well.

Edited: for spelling. Also to add the fact that my LO's e.d.d. IS Halloween makes it that much sweeter to me!
  • My dad's birthday is December 22. Everyone always combines his birthday and Christmas presents or he gets Christmas themed birthday gifts. I make it a point to completely separate the 2.

  • Hating Halloween?! Blasphemers! ;)

My UO is that I don't care for Christmas. It is a stone-cold bummer and I always assume that if Christmas gives someone the warm fuzzies then they must have had a semi-normal childhood.

I don't have happy memories from that holiday. The first Christmas after my mom died, my dad had to drop me off at my grandmother's house early that morning so he could fly to Paris for a two week soul-searching vacation. There was no Santa that year. I was 7.

I don't remember Christmas with my mom. I do, however, remember her dressing me in my Halloween costumes and taking me trick-or-treating.

You're absolutely right!  I didn't mean this as a political statement, didn't mean to offend you.  It works for any president, no matter his/her party.

My UO, (but probably more a rant) BF just sold his laptop to buy me a rather expensive camera, way way way more andvanced than I would ever need. Its not that Im not grateful, I just feel the money could have been better spent D: we have soooo many bills (and he has debt) I just want to cry! Not to mention we still need to look for a private rental! :'(

@anortho like when people say "I made gluten free cupcakes!" ....okay but there's still refined sugar...butter...artificial colors and flavorings....not to mention I'm not gluten intolerant...but go ahead..eat that "healthy" cupcake. *facepalm* [-X

I'm okay with it. I have a gluten free kid, i do better at life when I'm off gluten and oneofmy good friends has celiacs. The point is more that they are safe to eat than healthy. And if they taste good, I'll love the maker forever.

And often they are made with better quality ingredients. I like my junk food to be uppity!

Both my parents were born on December 18. I've been guilty of combining their gifts, but these days I try not to. So what of your birthday is mere days before or after a holiday? Everyone else gets to feel special on their day, right?

  • One of my kids is Dec. 27th and I always make it a point to seperate the two although not a lot of people want to attend a birthday party two days after Christmas.
  • My DH's birthday is in Oct and our anniversary is in Nov so I sometimes combine the two presents for that with Christmas to get him something better. Like last year he got an X-box 1. He actually likes this better since we have a spending cap on gifts. This way he get something he really wants that he wouldn't be able to otherwise.
  • My birthday is December 20th and my Daughter's is December 18th! I HATED combination gifts when I was younger. Total jipp! I make sure to separate my Daughter's bday from Christmas.
Now that I'm older I don't care too much. My BF and I agreed from here on out we would get something we both want or do something instead of buying separate Christmas presents for each other.
I may start celebrating my bday on June... There's just too much going on that time of year!
