We turned my son around at 21months. He was 28+ pounds, but his legs were always scrunched up against the back seat. It was hard to get him in, seated, and secured properly. And he was enjoying it less and less. He was so happy when he was turned around - we call it the car seat coma - he is quiet and just looks around, or talks to himself, and sometimes won't respond to us talking to him. And we were totally car seat safety people, we went to the CHP to have the seat checked before I gave birth, we help our friends who have their car seats incorrectly installed (read: we are those people who see a car seat flying around the backseat and weasel our way into fixing it), but now that our son is turned around everyone is a lot happier now, and within our laws and regulations. But, it's strange to think that we could be cited elsewhere.
I turned my son to forward facing at 13 months and I have no regrets. He was a terrible car seat baby and would scream non-stop while rear facing. Turning him around was the magic needed. I'm sure I'll get some flames for this but I think at a certain point all safety regulations are a bit extreme. I'm also the mommy who started giving my baby cereal at 4 months and OMG the difference! He's a healthy happy 25 month old now.
@britsknits11 how on earth did you manage to have a 35lb 13 month old? Wowza! My twins are in the 90th percentile at 2yrs and 32lbs.
LOL my daughter will be 3 in November and is 24 lbs. My son is 5 and 35 lbs. They are peanuts!

My son is 5 also and he weighs 57 lbs. he was a big boy when he was born he was 9 lbs. He's a gigantic child he wears size 7 clothes and size 1-1/2 shoe he starts kindergarten in August and I swear they aren't going to believe he's suppose to be there because of his size but he turned 5 in May.

I had to get a doctors note for my youngest son to change his car seat because he exceeded the weight limit for rear facing he was also uncomfortable because he had to sit with his legs crossed to sit so we talked to our doctor and they told us to turn him he was 18 months.

Okay, because I can't leave a discussion about carseat safety alone (and this is NOT directed toward anyone here who talked about flipping their kids early. It's just meant to be informative for FTMs and those who don't know):
I urge you to please do your research on why rear facing is so much safer than forward facing. It isn't just about them reaching a certain weight and height, it's also about the way their spines and bodies develop and how they can handle the impact of a crash. Turning a kid to FF can be convenient and may help with leg room, whining, or carsickness, but to me, a severed spinal cord is not worth it. Please also be aware that even if it's legal to turn your child after one, not all of the laws are caught up with the actual best practice safety standards. Age two MINIMUM is going to be your best bet to keep your child safe.
I have been a huge nail-biter my entire life. All of a sudden, I'm not biting. I think the prenatal vitamins are making my nails stronger and less brittle so I haven't wanted to bite them. My nails are still pretty short, but they're longer today than they were on my wedding day (I tried hard not to bite them before the wedding, but was not super successful). Maybe I can finally "kick the habit"!
Same here. Whenever I'm pregnant I don't bite for some reason. I love my pregnant nails!
