Just curious to see what you other mommies have or plan to have their LOs call the grandparents.
My mom refuses to let me tell her (first!!) grand baby call her nana. She says it would make her feel old, she's only 35 btw, and I said it sounded cute

.
My dad, on the other hand, wants to be called papaw Johnson lol. He's from Kentucky originally, so papaw is just what he grew up with.
So now I'm wanting to hear all the different terms you ladies use for grandma n grandpa, especially ones from different cultural backgrounds 8->
Re: What will/do you have the kids call their grandparents?
Are Grandma Bertie (short for Roberta) and Papa G.

My daughter calls my parents Numa (she made it up when she first started referring to them and my mom clung to it) and Grandpa, and my husband's parents Nana and Papa.
Usually I agree it is annoying when grandparents don't want to be called grandparent -like names because it makes them feel old. But if you mom is only 35, which is only 3 years older than me...I don't know, I kind of get it. I am not ready for anyone to call me Nana yet
My mom wants to be Nana, and my dad just wants to see what the kid calls him on his own :-)
MIL is Oma, as she's German. Her husband passed away a few years ago otherwise he would have been Opa.
My dad isn't a big part of my life. If I ever refer to him to Lo's it will be grandpa or grandpa Mike.
My sister's oldest called my mom "momma" and his mom "mine mom"
FIL/MIL - grandma and grandpa last name
My parents - Mimi and Captain (cappy)
Almost all my friends had grandparents that went by special names (Lulu, nanny, Minnie) so I wonder if that is more common in the South?
We waited until our son was old enough to decide on his own. The only person who chose what they wanted to be called was my grandmother who we call grandma but she wanted to be called grana by her great grandkids so she kindof forced it onto him. My mom never wanted to be called nana but S started calling my dad papa and nana soon followed. S calls H's mom don don (her name is donna) and calls h's dad grandpi. H's parents tried getting my son to call him papa but I was dead against that since he chose pape himself for my dad and H's parents have and will never be the grandparents that my parents have been (Hs parents live 15 min away and his mom doesn't work and they see him maybe 4x a year)

My boyfriend has minimal contact with his mother and none with his father so if there ever comes a time when he would need to address either of them my bf said he can refer to them by ms.___ & mr.___.
Your mom will come around. My mom didn't want nana either but my niece called her that one day and it just melted her heart she's been nana since.
Well, it stuck! My daughter has called my mom perfect grandma for a few years now.. LOL
