i wanted to have a reveal party after I find out the gender of my little one. I was wanting some ideas on what to do. I didn't have one with my first two so I'm not quite sure what to do. All ideas are welcome!
I could see us doing a reveal party with my family and our friends, hubs fam doesn't live near us. Just for something fun to do really. Filling the cupcakes is a cute idea. I'm sure I'll browse Pinterest for ideas. I like the cupcake idea but that means no one would know until dessert! And I know I would slip and say he or she before then!
Public Service Announcement: there have been several threads posted on this topic, and it has been discussed at length. You may want to do a search on the main page (if you're on mobile, scroll down to the bottom where it says "search January 2016" or something like that) to get more answers to your question. Repeat posts often get flamed in this community, so I just wanted to extend this as a friendly warning. Good luck, and God speed.
Most gender reveal parties aren't a full meal, usually just snacks/treats. I like the idea of putting the filing in just one cupcake. That way nobody knows which one it's in. Everyone takes a cupcake, bites in and someone gets to shout out what they found!
Personally, j have mixed feelings. My SIL had one and I went into it thinking it was a but pretentious but at the same time it was fun to find out together. To each their own. The couple didn't even know the gender, the had the ultrasound tech stick the gender and it was given to the baker, who filled the cake with pink icing. It was fun to find out with the parents
I saw online, people who do piñatas ... Then fill them with either blue or pink candies, confetti, etc. It looks really cute. I would vote for the candy personally... Yummy candy.
We plan on doing some sort of gender reveal. This baby is the first for both DH's family and mine. Nothing too big, my parents, DH's mom, and our siblings. We haven't decided quite what to do yet, though. I like the idea of a black balloon with corresponding color confetti inside. We're not really sweets people so a cake would be wasted.
What's wrong with having a reveal party? The cupcakes are a good idea. Should I put the colored filling in all or just one?
Not wrong per se but all I think is an unnecessary fuss over whether there's a vagina or penis on the baby. But I'm not the sort to make a fuss over it, and plan a whole get together. If you are that's cool. We revealed DD's gender at our baby shower with a balloon. We might do pictures with DD because all of our family are 3,000 miles away from us. I like the confetti in a balloon idea, or balloons in a box. DD loves balloons so probably better if they don't get popped, now that I think about it.
We are doing cupcakes with our immediate families! No one cares boy or girl but we are finding out at the same time as them so we are just so excited. Each of our family members is dressing in the color they think it is!
I'm not a fan. It feels very pretentious. What exactly are we celebrating? That your baby has genitals? Ok, cool. No one cares that much if your baby has a penis or vagina, except maybe the grandparents.
That's just my opinion. If you like them and want to do it, enjoy.
If you keep it small, with just immediate family, you may not have any people with my opinions. I'm actually invited to one this weekend. There are about 100 people invited. To me that's extremely attention whorey and over the top.

Can you imagine everyone is bursting w excitement and then the balloons are released and they're pink and everyone lets out a huge sigh of disappointment... That would be awesome

Even if just you did it, audibly enough that everyone heard...
We are doing a small one. At first I didn't want to ,I just didn't want this big party. My sister is a baker so she insisted that she make a super cute cake. I did make it very clear I would like to just have a small get together, no decorations, spending tons of money on food, etc. I did not see the point of it being like a shower (minus gifts of course). But at the same time, I love any reason to get family and friends together, so we just plan to keep it all very low key. We actually already know and my sister does as well (for the cake) we decided this could be a way to let all of our family know because they are all big mouths and didn't allow us to really reveal our pregnancy to anyone To each their own though, I know a lot of people who really went ALL OUT for their reveals.
I think its a fun idea! I don't think it's a big fuss or pretentious. I would just have family there. They all care to know if it's a boy or a girl. Its our first baby, and we want everyone to know before the baby shower if it is a boy or a girl. Pinterest is always good for ideas
I love any excuse to party! As long as it's obvious you aren't expecting gifts, what's the harm in using your own money to throw a party that people can choose to attend or not? 99.9% of the time I've heard about gender reveal parties, they're done with only family and close friends, aka people who hopefully ARE excited about your baby and WANT to spend more time with you, what's the harm of having dinner with these people and throwing in a cute colored cake at the end or whatever?
I second a PP at the idea of cupcakes and only one has the color inside so it's a game of who gets it.
I personally won't be having one only because I'm too impatient and definitely want to know before anybody else so I wouldn't wait until any party, and the second I know I will likely just blurt it out to everybody and start telling everybody the baby's name. This will be the first baby of its generation in my family and the first for all of my close friends, so everybody is extremely excited and impatient, while I think the idea is cute, I don't think any of us has the patience to plan a party before finding out, haha.
I threw one for my best friend and popped a black balloon over their heads with the pink confetti inside. It was super fun to surprise them. I dont really see why this is controversial. It was a fun and sweet celebration with everyone who loves them. No gifts or anything. Only reason we won't have one is our family and most of our friends live 500 miles away. Pinterest has plenty of cute ideas!
We found out on Wednesday what we're having and we're having a reveal party on Sunday. Our parents are really excited and it's been really hard keeping my mouth shut all week. It's just for immediate family and our closest friends. A casual gathering with sandwiches, cake, and a box filled with balloons. And we specifically requested no gifts, cause we don't want it to be a gift thing. Just a fun occasion. We're not going to have too much going on. Pink and blue decorations and I bought some pink and blue pacifiers so people can vote before we open the balloon box. I know it's not everybody's thing, and most parents don't know the gender when they have the party, but we're excited about it.
We will do a small one with family since we all live close and the crowd will be "shooting" us with silly string of the corresponding color. Taking pictures to share with friends on facebook and such
I have friends who did a twin reveal this past weekend with their older kids spraying them with silly string. It was cute but make sure whoever sprays you is back a couple feet otherwise it just looked white. It was the second one I had been too and they were cute but I would never bring a present. They also said feel free to bring a dish to pass so I felt I had to, I don't think I'd personally as that, but they did have pizza and cupcakes provided. My cousin is due a month ish before me with her first and her Pinterest board for her reveal is RIDICULOUS! She was pretty set on having blue or pink fireworks being set off to reveal...I just can't. To each their own though, if someone wants to celebrate whatever they feel is important to them and includes us, I'd probably go just for something to do
I think I'm going to do one at my baby shower. 1) no bad gender specific gifts 2) I think it would be fun I just don't want all my friends to have to go to two parties if they felt weird or obligated about it. I'll find out at 20 weeks and then keep it a secret until then.
With our second I think we'll just do some type of photo to share, or maybe have immediate family over and do the piñata idea - that sounds pretty fun, I'm sure all the niece/nephews would love it.
We had one with our last LO. We did not find out at the ultra sound. We brought 2 cans of silly string, one pink one blue, and had her take the cap off and wrap the silly string that applied. We went to a family party which was planned separately with the guests not knowing they would be finding out the sex of our baby. The party was just a family gathering that we often have. We had our nephew spray to reveal. It was fun.
I don't really get why people think these parties are tacky or whatever. This is the first baby on both sides for us, and it's a huge deal with a lot of people that want to celebrate every step with us. My mom and MIL will find out at the ultrasound, and then my MIL is throwing the party. I'm really excited about it!
Doing a party to reveal a baby's gender isn't really my style. But, I came across these cute cupcakes on pinterest and remembered that you guys were talking about this.
I don't know why people find them tacky either. It's a get together of close people who are excited about baby! No gifts or anything of that sort, just a special memory to share together. But, to each their own....We found out Wednesday but had doctor put in an envelope. So we will find out with close family and friends on Sunday. We are doing confetti poppers : ) either blue or pink confetti will pop out. It's been torture waiting when the information is available lol
This is what we told my FIL. We are letting my in-laws do the sex reveal party, and then my mom will do the baby shower. MIL is so excited about this baby, never mind that she has three other grandbabies, hehe, that we wanted to give them the opportunity to celebrate with their friends.
I wanted to have a "What will it BeBQ?" I have a whole Pinterest board. lol I was going to have my friend make a "reveal" dress for my daughter to wear. The dress would essentially have two skirts, the hidden skirt would be representative of the sex.
My mom decided she wanted to have one just with our parents and siblings. She is going to do some kind of scavenger hunt for us probably leading to cupcakes with the right gender colored frosting in the middle.
We did it with my daughter it was so fun! We just invited family and had everyone pick a team and wear blue or pink necklaces. We had snacks and after a little while we had the two grandmas open a box which revealed pink balloons. Everyone cheered and it was a great way to announce gender and fun to see everyone's reactions.
We won't be doing one this time but still have some fun ideas for revealing gender

End of PSA.
Thinking about balloons this time to involve our son!
