Anyone care what they are having? Preference? I'd be happy with a boy or girl!
We have one of each already. We never cared with the first two but DH jokes that he wants a boy because DD is such a handful. Lol. But seriously, we don't care.
I want a girl, husband wants a boy - typical. Obviously, both of us will love and be over the moon happy with either -- but, we do have our preferences for who comes first lol.

We have one of each and my husband says the same thing!
We have 2 boys together (I have 2 step sons) so really we have 4 boys… we are kinda hoping for another boy. The family, however, all "feel" like its a girl. )

If we have a girl we are done. If we have a boy we are hopefully having a third. Needless to say I would like to be done, so my body, mind and sanity are praying for a girl. The sex of the third doesn't matter it's just to not have one of each =" perfect family"
One of my good friends from elementary school who I still follow on facebook is having twins. She did a huge 'gender' reveal party last night and posted all the photos. It was way over the top. She probably had 12 people, and spent upwards of $700. There were blue cupcakes, pink cupcakes, blue straws, pink straws, blue tables, pink tables, blue lemonade, pink lemonade, etc. etc. etc. It looked like somebody's pinterest page threw up.
There was a big rubbermaid bin in the yard with a chalk board in front of it and all of these question marks on it. There is a video of my friend and her husband, after the crowd counted down, opening the bin and 4 white doves flying out. (WTF?) I guess that meant they were having 2 girls. (If it was boys, would have we seen ravens? Snakes? I'm so confused.)
My hormones are going nuts and the whole thing made me so mad. If I was there, I probably would have tried to grab a dove to bring home to my dog. Answer me this: when people are liking and sharing videos of Caitlin Jenner, and changing their profiles to rainbow photos of themselves, how are those same people still having 'gender' reveal parties?!?!

I'm concerned about the doves. How long were they cooped up in that rubbermaid tub for? How hot was it outside? Ridiculous.

Everything about this seems completely acceptable to me except for the doves - sorry. She should have done balloons or confetti and not used live animals. But, if she did it for 12 people, it obviously wasn't a big party. 12 people indicates it was for close family or friends. And just because you are revealing the sex of your baby, doesn't mean that if you child one day feels their gender and sex doesn't match, that you won't be supportive. I plan to reveal the sex of my baby with my immediate family. But, I will completely support my child if, down the line, they feel like they are a different gender.

I think she was pointing out the hypocrisy of society being supportive of people who do not feel their sex matches their gender but still perpetuate the term "gender reveal". That's what I took from her statement. MHO is that it's just ignorance. If it was pointed out to them they would probably stop.

Hey, sounds fun to me! Except the doves, I agree that was a little much. If I had the time and money to spend on it I would have an awesome "sex reveal" party. Though I completely agree with the ignorance of the "gender" reveal. I think it's still mainstream and will take a while for people to "get" it. Honestly, it took me lurking this board for me to "get" it. Maybe you should urge her to join The Bump ha.

I try to give people a pass with the whole "gender" reveal thing because they just don't know what they don't know. They just need someone to nicely explain the difference. Personally, I think big parties for this are a waste of money. I can see doing something small with immediate family. It's something grandparents would get excited about. The dove thing is ridiculous. I don't get how that symbolizes girls and it seems unfair to the birds, but whatever.

I would be on the fenceline making horrified faces in regards the the doves. Poor birds!!
It's really easy to spend 700 on a family gathering - just saying. The cake itself is at least 200.. Then you have appetizers and a meal (at least 300) and booze ... That's 700 right there. Not that weird...

Other than my wedding (planning for 150+ people) I have never spent $200 on a cake. Yikes.

$700 on a party with 12 guests seems pretty excessive. I mean, if you've got the kind of money to toss off $700 on a small party, go for it, but I certainly would not spend that kind of money on something like this.

Exactly. Sure, spend your money however you want, but that's a lot. We didn't even spend $200 total on DS's first birthday party, and there were more than 12 people there. ETA: And yes, we fed everyone plenty of food, there was cake, there were decorations, and favors. No booze, because, uh, it's a one year old's birthday party and we aren't a big drinking family.
