Mirena mommies

I want to hear about other people's experiences with Mirena so far. Getting Mirena was not an easy decision for me, but it seems like my best option. I feel like I will be regretting getting it unless I have some sort of support group for it.

I just had it placed 3 days ago. Mine didn't hurt going in, but when I stood up I felt it inside of me and it hurt when I shifted to one side. I walked around in the room until I felt comfortable that it was in right. I had cramping for the rest of the day and was fatigued. I only bled for one day afterwards and have been sore. I felt pretty good yesterday and it had been over 48 hours, so my husband and I had sex last night. It didn't feel very good. I woke up in the middle of the night having stomach cramps/bloating. I feel better now so I'm thinking the stomach cramps were from the glass of champagne I had last night. I'm going to check for the strings when I'm feeling a little braver.

How has everybody else's experience been so far?

Re: Mirena mommies

  • My doctor told me 1 week before sex so I can't relate just yet. I had mine placed 3 days ago and was surprised how painful it actually was for me. The actual placement didn't hurt, the process did. No bleeding, only minor cramping. I don't think I can feel it at all. Could you pull it out by the string? I haven't explored..
My doctor told me to ignore all the negative chat regarding the IUD and I've honestly never paid attention because I've been on the pill for so long. I went with the IUD because I'm breastfeeding and not interested in have another baby.

  • My doctor said we could have sex right away just make it to the car first...lol. I can't feel mine and either can my husband. I do think it has caused an infection and I have pretty much been bleeding since it was placed. I don't like it since it worries me that it will move and we will become pregnant. We use condoms with it now but next doctors appointment I'm getting permanent birth control. No more babies for me.

How is going so far with the mirena?? I just got mine placed today ive had very few cramps and some spotting.
  • I got mine 2 weeks ago. Spotted the first day, no other side effects since!
  • I got mines placed a week ago and I've started to get heavier bleeding. My doctor said its normal to have bleeding as if I were on my period but it still worries me. It didn't hurt at all when it got placed in and I haven't had any cramps so far.. Haven't tried sex just yet because I'm still a little sore down there from the birth.
  • Got mine placed a week ago - minor cramping and light spotting a day or so after. Now I have my period - at least I hope it's my period and not just irregular bleeding
  • I hate to be negative bc I know it has worked well for so many, but I just had mine removed today. I started a "period" which lasted for a month and a week after. (It ended today when the mirena was removed). I could always feel it inside, and I was constantly checking the strings because of that. Also, I started having back and pelvic pain—like spasms about a week ago, and my chiropractor couldn't find anything wrong in that area with my spine. When I told her I had an iud, she said they can commonly cause this type of pain. I was just done with it. Don't feel ashamed if you end up removing it! I'm struggling with that now, because my poor husband is going to have to use condoms. :-( but, anyways I hope yours is great! Sorry about the rant.
  • Sorry to hear about that in PP. I'm feeling better about it. I've been bleeding since, but very lightly. I have done a lot of research and you are supposed to bleed for a while because it thins the lining of the uterus so that an embryo cannot implant. I don't feel mine at all anymore and no cramping. Just still dealing emotionally with not having any more babies :(
