Sometimes visiting these boards is like Groundhog Day. When will the night mare be over?
OK seriously. I only opened this thread because I was wondering why it was rendering as new when I swore I had already responded. Nope... That was the same exact thread from the other day that I responded to. Sigh...
Oh and tomorrow is 7/11 ladies... Free slurpies at 7/11!
I'm super excited!!! Driving all the way to the other side of town for my free slurpie.. I know it's a little crazy but round trip it's probably about 45 minutes..
We are visiting family for the weekend and realized it as we drive by one. I'm happy because our only one closed a few months ago.
I just searched my zip on the 7-11 website and the closest one is about 200 miles away. I was pretty sure there weren't any in our area, but none within 100 miles? Yikes.
You poor thing. I've got 3 in my town and probably about 6 in the next town over. No area needs that many 7-11s. I'd be more than happy to share.
OP- if it's wrong, then you get to come back to the bump in four months and every time you see a "could the gender be wrong" post, you can write "YES IT HAPPENED TO ME" and shut them all up.
The main issue I have with anyone "stressing" about the sex of their baby- is its 101% pointless. Your baby is what it is. There was one lady a while ago who was stressing as if her baby was a boy he could have a genetic disease... THAT is a reason to stress about the sex.
Despite all the rude comments (don't worry it is always the same few people just ignore them) your question is fair. You can never be sure. I have a friend that was told girl during the entire pregnancy and it turned out to be a boy. Also my doctor told me that she can not ever determine the gender 100 percent. Just wait for the next scan and ask again but keep in mind you could always get surprised.

So glad you resurrected a dead and pointless thread to write this gem.
I'm FYI, it was a gender ultrasound. I already had my anatomy scan, we couldn't tell gender, so I had to pay $75 to get an ultrasound just find out tell sex.
Again, FYI, it was a gender ultrasound. I already had my anatomy scan but they couldn't tell me a gender. Due to my insurance, I couldn't get another ultrasound just for that so I had to PAY $75 for an ultrasound just to tell me the gender.
OP are you kidding?!?!?!? "Stressed" about the SEX (gender is different fyi) "wrong." Seriously?!?!? I want to bang my head on a wall with these posts. The sex of your child is not a reason to "stress" getting a call that they see something in your baby's heart..., reason to stress.... Having to get even more blood work because you have an unknown antibody in your blood.... Reason to stress.... A million other things.... Reason to stress.... "Stressing" over the sex..... Ridiculous and self absorbed
OP here's a wild idea-- Why don't you wait the 4 days until your next ultra sound?????
And FYI it isn't a "gender ultrasound". It's to make sure your child, probably the girl they told you that you're having, is growing and developing and everything looks okay.
And if it for some crazy reason they were wrong and it's a boy PLEASE DO NOT come up on here talking about how disappointed you are because you were so happy to be having a girl. TIA
fyi, yes it was a GENDER ULTRASOUND. I already had my anatomy scan and they did not tell me a sex because they do not have to. So I had to go and pay to have another scan just so I would know the gender. If you read my post correctly, it even said that I would be happy either way. I just want a healthy baby. The only reason I asked was because my bitch if a mother in law kept trying to convince me that the doctors got it wrong.
How common is the doctors tellinf you the wrong gender at 21 weeks? We went in a week early due to me being under tons of stress. We got a ultrasound done and they said it a baby girl. We also go this Tuesday for another ultrasound (my actual gender ultrasound). My family keeps saying they could have messed up and it's making me nervous. I'm happy with either a girl or boy but I've already gotten myself so happy and excited including my husband.
FYI, it's the "Anatomy Scan", not "gender ultrasound". The purpose is to assess the if the baby is growing and developing normally. Finding out the sex is just a bonus.

Thems the breaks. An anatomy scan isn't there to tell you the sex so yeah you had to outsource to find out the sex. Even with your insurance covering it I doubt your Dr. would have agreed to a whole other medical ultrasound just for you to find out the sex. Hope you got your answer as to what you're having. This is pretty much why I'm team green.

Yes a gender ultrasound as in I had to pay to get told what I was having. The base does NOT tell you girl or boy at your anatomy scan. You have to be seen off base in which your insurance does not cover. So yes, I had to pay just to see what I was having.
The fact that you really think I was stressed because of the sex of my child is fucking stupid. I was stressed because my MIL is a bitch and tried breaking me and my husband up. I watched my grandfather lay in his death bed and take his last breathe. Me and my family are constantly fighting and finally I have beyond depression that seems to be getting worse. So before you assume, us re read. No where did it say I was stressed about the gender. It said I was hospitalized due to STRESS!
You can honestly calm down now. You posted about the SEX of your child and said you were stressed. We had no possible way of knowing any of the rest even if we were to read it 100 times. If you paid to have a special ultrasound to determine your child's sex and were not happy with the results, most of those places will redo it. Call them and ask them to do it over.
I'm sorry you're dealing with a lot, but honestly this question has been asked and answered almost daily and it's all over the internet. We are not your Google, personal servants, or head nodding sycophants. Had you said you were stressed about other things we would have been far more helpful. You don't post here frequently and your attitude has been pretty crappy in this, the only thread you've participated in. You'll earn more compassion from the community when you show a little more.
If there's something strange underneath the hood. Who you gonna call? Your Doctor. If there's something weird and it don't look good. Who you gonna call? Your Doctor. Immediately. If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor. It's for your health and your child's.

**Removed for TOU Violation**
Part of the point these women are making is that there's a difference between gender and sex.
Me: 28, DH: 40 Married 9/28/13 DS born 11/12/15 EDD 8/13/18
@mlcrites It's sex, not gender. That's why everyone is saying that. It's more appropriate to use the correct terminology as it can offend many people. You won't know the babies gender for a few more years.
First, try not to stress. I know, easier said than done, as that was me the past week. Maybe do something you enjoy to help calm yourself. Second, there have been a few threads regarding this. The OP is always told the same thing, and it's true... the chances are extremely low that you would have been told the wrong sex (gender is something different). Technology now days is much better than it was to where it is highly unlikely that a trained professional doing the ultrasound would make that mistake at 21 weeks. It's safe to say you're having a girl. Sorry, but you're better off not listening to your family on this one. You're in good hands with your doctor :-) he or she spent many years in school and knows what he or she is doing and looking at. Finally, the ultrasound you're referring to is actually the anatomy scan. Finding out the sex of your baby at that ultrasound is just a bonus. I think when you have that done and get the results, you will feel a lot of relief to know everything is fine and your baby girl is healthy!
Edit because ughh, words
What I was referring to was literally a gender ultrasound. I already had my anatomy scan. The base does not tell me boy or girl. You have to go off base and pay to get told what you are having. Insurance does not cover it, so I literally paid 75 Tuesday for a lady to give me a 15 minute ultrasound just to tell me boy or girl.
Seriously, just trust your dr. What if your dr really is wrong and you pop out the opposite sex when you deliver? You just have to deal with it as it comes. No reason to get stressed over the sex.
I was not stressed over the sex. I was stressed because my MIL is trying to break up my marriage, I've been constantly arguing and crying because me and my husband are fighting about her then literally a few days ago I watched my grandfather lay on his death bed and take his last breathe right in front of me. Not to mention I already deal with depression and an eating disorder which isn't good for my baby So I have alot to stress about. Thank you.
@mlcrites We get the point. You are obviously free to respond to each and every one of these posts, but you are repeating yourself almost to the verge of spam which is against the TOU.

She also called someone a dumbass so.....
I'm aware. I just figured she might not want to go out in a blaze of glory using all 3 of her warnings in her one and only thread.

I'm honestly wondering what base/post you're on that they won't tell you the sex of the baby. That just seems weird but ok. I understand Tricare doesn't cover it, I'm on Tricare as well. Of course they aren't going to cover an elective ultrasound... because it's elective, not necessary. The doctor I saw most recently told me that the sex of the baby is the only thing the ultrasound tech can tell you. Either way, slow your roll. They won't even do the anatomy scan until 22 weeks on this post so we had an elective ultrasound done as well and had to pay $75 out of pocket. Not a big deal. A lot of people here do it.
Good point. You're kind for warning her. She would be missed.
lol.
It does sound like OP is dealing with a lot of stressful stuff going on at home and even I can go all ranty on people when I'm in a pissy mood. I figure a fair warning isn't too much consideration to give someone even if she hasn't been particularly nice to anyone here.

Yes, but they didn't tell you the gender, they told you the sex. That's what people are trying to say. Sex is anatomical, gender is social. You can tell the sex of a baby before birth through blood tests, anatomy scan, or elective ultrasounds, but you won't know the gender for a while. And why on Earth did they not tell you the sex at your a/s? I'm not buying the military thing, because that's part of the a/s. They check everything. The only reason they wouldn't tell you then is if they couldn't get a good look because the baby wasn't in a good position or if you expressly told them you didn't want to find out.

Finding out the sex is considered elective. It's not always part of the anatomy scan, depending on the hospital.
I recently read that in Canada it's considered unethical because it "promotes sex selection" and increases the likelihood a mother could abort the baby if it's a sex she didn't want.

I was under the impression that they check the development of all vital functions, bones, and
organs (sex organs included) during the a/s, no matter where you live, but perhaps that's not the case. I can't even wrap my head around somebody choosing to about at 20w+ just because their baby didn't have the genitalia they wanted it to. In any case, I'm pretty sure OP lives in the U.S., and that it's standard procedure to learn the sex from the a/s in the U.S. (esp. since another military person has been skeptical as to why they wouldn't)...
I have no more sympathy for you than I did before. Going through and individually responding to every single person who didn't answer your question the right way is not a way to win any compassion for your situation. So if that was your reasoning for resurrecting this thread I hate to tell you, it probably didn't work.

We have a similar discussion going on in the December BMB. It seems to vary from hospital to hospital.
My doc asked me what the sex was because the hospital that did the ultrasound wasn't allowed to tell her. She said that the scan wasn't for sex determination purposes. There are very specific shots they're supposed to get of the baby and the sex isn't a required one.
I know the OPs dilemma was different, but that just underscores that even within the U.S., things can be different between different insurance companies and hospitals.
While things undoubtedly do vary from hospital to hospital, things are pretty standardized with military healthcare. Even if OP is stationed over seas, they still follow the same general guidelines. She specified that she was seen on base, which means she has Tricare Prime specifically. Tricare is also pretty standardized. We may not get the luxury of 3D ultrasounds on post, but we do at least get the luxury of finding out the sex of the baby at the anatomy scan providing the tech can get a good view of his or her genitalia.

Actually at my doctors office there is no medical reason to look at the genitals unless there are other factors. I just learned this on Monday at our second AS, when the tech said she was all set after getting all of the images they didn't get the first time. I asked about the genitals because the tech never told us to look away, and she said there was no medical reason and since we weren't finding out she wasn't going to bother looking. That was news to me!!
So, honest question here.... What TOU did I apparently violate? I don't care that my comment was "deleted" (find it comical actually) but I do want to know what exactly I said wrong....
