I wanted to get advice on traveling with our 1 month old. We are moving and it will be over a 13 hour drive to our new home and will be stopping half way to stay at hotel over night. I am currently breast feeding and pumping. I was thinking I'll need to save up milk ahead of time and store it in a cooler for day 1 of trip and have frozen milk to put in cooler for day 2. Any advice on how to do this properly? My mom will be riding along to help to feed baby while he is in car seat. He is eating every 1-2 hours now. I will also have to make stops along drive to pump. I could buy a car adapter for my pump since I'm unsure how I could pump in a restroom while making a stop. Also any advice on keeping little one happy for long trip in a car seat? I hope he sleeps most of it but I'm worried about him getting fussy from being in seat too long.
Re: Traveling with new baby
Good luck on your trip!
Another option is to use a car adapter or battery pack to pump in the car and feed that to LO, eliminating the need to freeze pumped milk or heat frozen milk. I did this one 9 hr car ride. I sat in back to pump, fed LO with a bottle, and rode up front when LO slept. As long as you use the milk in a few hours, the bottle can sit in a cup holder until you need it. As pp said, be careful feeding. We took lots of breaks so LO ate more slowly and didn't have problems.
Good luck!
Also +1 on the car adapter. I've used it while flying down the highway (riding, not driving). I've actually used the car adapter a ton already. One day our power was out a home--pump in the car.
I haven't been able to pump, so except for a couple small bottles I expressed, we stopped every time he needed to eat. We changed diapers and fed right in the car.
