Baby Names

Worst names ever...

Real ones, that is. I want them.

You great great great grandparent's name or some hideous thing you read in a novel or even something you think is real.

MIL and mother won't stop asking about names even after having been told for months that we're saving the name until the baby is born.  We've begun feeding them a line of BS and some of the worst names imaginable that we're 'considering'.  Unfortunately, there are only so many Thorfinns and Syphilidaes, and I'm running out of truly awful names.

So help a pregnant lady get her jollies, huh?

  • DH made up Lucilla Penelope(some may like this so sorry!) and Begonia for those nosy name asking people. His boss actually called Teagan "Lucilla Penelope!"

  • My cousin's son was dubbed Jarvis Mason while in the womb. Someone came up with it, and it stuck throughout the pregnancy. He's been Alexander since he was born, though, thank goodness!
  • Forsythia.

    Andalusia

    Manhattan (because Brooklyn's passe)

Think of a pun. We told people we were going to name our baby either Niagara if it was a girl, or Truman Robert if it was a boy. Bad, but not terrible, right? Add in our last name - Falce. So it's Niagara Falce, or Tru R. Falce.

  • Rancinda, Meconium, Druella, Cruella

  • When I was in high school, there really was a brother and sister with the worst names ever. Halloweena Pumpkin was the girl, and Skates Booger was the boy. What were their parents smoking?

My mother is a nurse and she once had an older male patient named Nosmo King. Yes, you've heard it in jokes before, but this was totally for real.

  • Sigrid is in my family tree. It's a she. For real.
    Blank!
  • DH's parent's didn't know if they were having a boy or girl and called him Justin Case while he was in the womb.... as in "Justin Case it's a boy". Thank God they didn't keep that name, lol
  • my friend named her poor DD Jam Metallica. I have no idea what the hell they were thinking.

  • Elvira.. it's my gma's name and thank God she goes by Vera. Hate it!
  • Personally the justin case one is my favorite.  When my friend was researching dog names she came up with Askim as in "Ask Him?".  Use some alliteration with your last name too.  I wish I had thought to do this - because I got some flack for the middle name that I chose - it was my grandma's name so it is less than popular by today's standards.

  • We've been telling everyone it's Mildred Olga.
  • A co-worker named her daughter Jagger, as in Mick Jagger.

DS goes to daycare with a Titus and a Delton.

  • My husband went to high school with a guy named Johnnifer (his twin sister was named Jennifer!)  I didn't believe my husband when he told me, so I made him get his yearbook out of the attic.  JOHNNIFER.  And apparently he never went by "John".

I have friends who named their son "Knathan" so that he would have a name that "matched" their "K" names and his siblings with "K" names.

  • My BF taught a kid named Brooks Dunn.  I know a Bullet, Jeston, and Cannon.  My great grandma's name was Elektra.

  • My Dad's former receptionist was named Dorcas. I always felt bad for her.

  • some chica on the today show this morning had a sign saying hi to her boyfriend "Mason Dixon" and the hosts asked if that was really his name and she said yes.   i found that to be an interesting name!
  • There is a woman in the news that I read about last night whose name was RebelJane.

I gotta say, I love the idea of throwing some out-there names at people to get them off your back.  I may have to try that when my time comes!

I have a great-great uncle named Adolf.  DH's family tree has a Concepta (which was apparently quite popular in turn-of-the-century Ireland, along with Immaculata).
  • Oooh!  I thought of couple other ones.  One of the rep's I talk with on a frequent basis is named *** Creek.  And I distinctly remember reading an article in my alumni newsletter in which a man named Timber *** was being interviewed (he worked for the US Forest Service, appropriately enough).

This is a bad name, but at least she is a character in "The Winter's Tale." ?

  • I recently learned one of my relatives was named Herman. All I could think of was Herman Munster.
  • I have an ancestor named Hortense, I think that's pretty awful :)

You are so money and you don't even know it.
  • One year at summer camp, I had a counselor named 'Sunnye' (spelled that way) and another named 'Freedom' (true.)

Also, once met a competitive skier in Colorado with the first name 'Tree'.

  • I went on a hospital tour with a girl named Jillizabeth.  As in Jill+Elizabeth. Awful.

And we called my nephew Gunther while in the womb.

  • Twins - Nester and Nesterine.
  • In highschool thera was a girl called Julyernest for Julie+Ernest
  • A friend of mine referred to LO as Forbes (boy) or Fanny (girl) until we found out the sex.  Both are pretty bad, but believable if you really want people to get off your back about names!
  • imagelissasue3:

PP - why is Devon bad?  I've known several Devon's.

Bad names:  Grandmothers' names: Delores, Edna

Saw in baby book: Citronella - for a boy!

Thanks for standing up for us Devons in the world! Yes

  • Claire Annette for a girl. Dagger for a boy. (Or jax)
  • My great uncles name is Golden (they had 16 kids so i think they ran out of names). I also have an aunt named Misty Maybelle.

  • My fiance thinks the most clever name ever for a baby is Doctor. Because everyone will assume he is one. Blah. In my family I have Ethel, Erma, Gertrude, Morton, and Anton that I don't like.

You could go with the tried and true Nevaeh. Bonus points for keeping a straight face when you excitedly tell them it's Heaven backwards!!!!!

If all else fails, tell them you're naming it after where/how it was conceived. Something pretty and sophisticated like Duvet. A classy friend I went to middle school with got pregnant while drinking Alize, and named her baby that.
