  • @klkonwi thats what happened to me with the pump. Now I wear a hands free pumping bra and it keeps the suction without too much pressure. You can make your own out of sports bras too since the lansinoh one is kind of pricey ($40)

  • LO is 12 days old and She keeps falling asleep on the boob. I rub her feet or back of head and she's done after 7 min. I try and offer the other boob but nothing :( normally this happened a just during the day but it was also at night. Right before bed she cluster fed for almost 2 hours so I thought it was just that but it's continuing this morning. Any advice on how to keep her awake at the boob?
  • @Jconsilio23 My guy used to fall asleep on the boob in less than 10 min, too. He still does like to snooze at the bar, but usually we can make it beyond the 10 min mark now. In addition to tickling his neck and feet, I also blow in his face, thump the bottoms of his feet, walk my fingers up his back underneath his T-shirt, gently wave his arms or move his legs. As he has gotten older he has gotten stronger and is able to work at the breast longer before getting tired

Welp LO just took 4.5 oz from the breast. How the heck am I supposed to keep up with that for pumping enough to replace what she eats. The worst part is she still wanted to keep going... Makes me feel bad for giving her 2.5oz bottles but she seems fine after them. Maybe she was just super hungry.

Oh and she's eating again now 2 hours later. Oink.

  • @hgilmore11 make sure LO is still getting most of your areola in the mouth even with the shield. I wasn't and ended up causing myself more pain. My LO had me feed with the shield for 10 minutes, get less engorged and then take the shield off. Then I went from using it every other feed. Now I'm having painless feeds and haven't had to use the shield in almost a week.

I'm sick!!! Not sure what I have. Went to midwives to check for common infections after birth. Getting my urine culture sent off and should know tomorrow if I have a UTI. All I can say is trying to breastfeed with a fever and chills is the worst possible thing. Just having the chills make my nipples hurt.

I'm thinking a friend who stopped by might have brought a bug with her. Her LO was sick and she waited 4 days to come visit. Who knows. This is the first time I wished family lived close by.
  • @dancegurl1118 my guy took 4 oz at 2 am ....... I was shocked as well.
  • @klkonwi I mean LO went from 25th percentile at birth to now 78th so I shouldn't be surprised but...every other time she's been taking 2.5-3 oz so I was shocked. Just when I thought I was pumping enough...

  • @dancegurl1118, how do you know how much lo is getting from breastfeeding? I've always wanted to know how much my girls get.

  • @DolphinLover2002 I go to a BF support group and they have you strip LO, change the diaper and then weigh them. Then you feed and weigh again to see how much they took. I wish I had a baby scale but theirs is so exact so it's nice to see.

Theoretically you can do this with a scale that reads more than just the pound at home, but it just can't be you holding LO on the scale because if you breastfed you're losing those oz as well as creating more milk so it's not exact.

  • no matter what.. LO just cant drain the left side. i ended up hand expressing a full oz yesterday to get some of the pressure off because it wasnt that sides turn to be fed from (i was told to only feed him 1 side at a time due to my excessive production) and i dont want to pump to completely empty it as i fear that will just make it worse. im thinking i should try cabbage leaves for a short time each day. its not to the point of throbbing pain, but its not enjoyable.
  • LO had an follow up visit today. Good news, little man gained almost 8 oz in 2 weeks and grew an inch in length and .5" in head circumference. Bad news, Dr thinks he has a milk protein intolerance and reflux which is causing lower abdominal pain and the extreme fussiness at night. Told me to cut out dairy from my diet and start probiotics. Anyone have any success with these gerber drops? I hate seeing him in pain every night and am really hoping this is the solution!!

Not sure what is going on with LO but for the last couple of days she's been eating so fast it seems like she chokes herself and then starts screaming. She's also been spitting up a lot more, something that hasn't been happening. She's just over 4 weeks.

Anyone else experience this with their LO? Just a phase? My diet since I'm EP?

@katyqv Yes! I could have written this post! We're 5 weeks today but she's been doing the choking/screaming thing and we've also had some major spit ups. The kind where it seems like she eats 3 oz and spits up 8! We've been making a really good effort to keep her upright after feedings for 20-30 min as several ladies have suggested and (fingers crossed) we haven't had a spit up since! Maybe try that if you haven't yet ?
Same thing here! I make LO take a burp break and hold him up. After several times in a row, I take him off. He's usually overly tired and looking for comfort at this point. That's where snuggles and a paci come in. We introduced that at 4 weeks and it has been awesome!
  • Hi all
Lo is 3 weeks old. Feel super guilty because breastfeeding is just not working out for us. I feel like he got used to bottles that he doesn't want NY breast anymore, if that even makes sense. I feel like a failure.
  • Thank u @elizab14 ! I will try that. Met with the LC today and she said in 25 years she's only seen 5 cases where the baby sucked so hard they were pulling the nipple through!

I hate to say this but if you have the chills and it's warm out, you might be coming down with mastitis. The first sign of it for me was not breast pain or redness (that came later) but it was getting the chills and then a very fast on set fever. My Dr said immediately lay down and rest, fatigue is a leading cause and I was over doing it. I did have a temp that went up to 104.3 and had to do antibiotics. I hope u feel much better soon!
  • LO is 3 weeks today. I'm EP because he has an extremely high palate that makes it difficult for him to latch (thank you to my genetics for that one... note sarcasm). We haven't had to supplement since the day after coming home from the hospital, but he is definitely starting a growth spurt. He went from eating 2.75 oz every 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night to eating 3.3 oz in the same interval. It seems like such a huge jump, but he is gaining weight steadily and is happy. I'm starting to worry my supply won't be able to keep up, I'm pumping anywhere from 3-5 oz every 3-4 hours but I went from being 4 bottles ahead to only two. I know it's all fine, but I just had to vent and worry for a minute because I'm so proud that we haven't had to supplement hardly at all and I really want to keep it up! Breastmilk poops are soooo easy compared to others that I've changed!

LO is 3.5 weeks, BF and pumping.

Mine is super gassy at night too. Nothing we've tried has helped. Altering my diet is next. She's been up every hour with gas and every 3 hours to eat. She also spits up at night, usually an hour after I put her down.

Has anyone else experienced LO making lots of noise breathing? This is more than just newborn noises. She gasps and squeals and than her breathing sounds ragged, like she's been holding her breath. I can't sleep through it, but if she's quiet, I become paranoid she stopped breathing. We go mm in this week to the ped, so I will ask then as well.

Happens to DS only when I pump and give him a bottle at night if he feeds from the boob no spit up, no gas

My babe hasn't pooped all day and is crabby as ever. So weird..... Usually poops everytime he eats.

I did all if this bc I eat a lot of dairy and LO had green poop longer than she should have. I cut all dairy for 2 weeks (super hard...EVERYTHING has dairy in it) and get to start slowly phasing it back in tomorrow. I'm way too excited about having a kraft single on my sandwich again. It's sad.

We use the Gerber drops bc I was gbs+ so the pedi suggested it...I don't think we have gas issues, but we definitely still have a witching period at night where LO loses it and fights sleep for no reason. Last night it lasted from 8pm to 1am. Sigh.

Just wanted to see how many ounces little ones are taking. I was EBS up until couple days ago...mastitis due to incorrect latch. Now I am pumping. Daughter is taking 3oz. What is everyone else's little ones taking?
  • 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours

LO will spend time on the boobs, then take anywhere from 1 to 2 and half ounces of formula. More recently closer to 2 ounces than 1, tho it still happens.

Ours goes through poop spurts. My sister (who is pregnant with #4) said she always noticed around week 5 things would change. LO sometimes goes all day and other days several times. Gone are the days of every diaper change being a poop.
  • @btm013 thank you! I really wasn't sure what to think/do. I thought Breastfed babies would always have a stool everytime they ate. I didn't know it regulated after awhile.
  • I'm pretty sure this piggy doesn't know when to stop. After a nice 6 hour stretch (thank you baby Jesus) she went HAM on my engorged boob, spit up (which she's only done when she's had too much), and went back to the other side and went wild again. Should I be concerned that she's not self regulating? I'm sure she was just super hungry because I often hear her tummy growl at our first night time feeding for being without food for so long.

  • LO is 3 weeks. She eats more frequently from the breast because of my slower production...if I pump every 2-3 hours I get about 2 oz. my guess is she can get more out of there so she eats 2 1/2-3 oz every 2-2 1/2 hours, except during her long nap, which can be up to 4 hours long. (I pump during that one) she gets 4-8 oz of formula a day, whenever she's her hungriest. It's generally spread it out in 2 oz portions throughout the day. Last night she took 4oz of formula and about 2 oz of bm right before bed (over an 1.5 hour period) and slept from 9:30-2:30. Awesome.
  • Those that EBF, has your baby forgot how to latch properly? Mine has been great until a few days ago. She doesn't get her whole mouth around my left side anymore yet she is still getting enough to eat but it's hurt Mom. It's like she's only tugging on my nipple. Anyone know a way to reteach? Don't want this turning into a problem.
  • I went back to work last week (Why I've been missing lately) and today is my first day to go to my satellite clinic 1 1/2 hours away. My assistant is driving and I am pumping in the backseat. Yes. This is happening!

LO eats about 2 1/2 oz when he's at daycare every 2 or so hours. The last few nights he's been sleeping in 4 hour stretches and only seems interested in one boob. I have to work on keeping him awake enough for the other one.
  • Did anyone else have a miserable experience with gripe water? We tried it yesterday and it made her vomit and her gas pain seemed worse than I've ever seen it. Borderline scary. She also was drooling like crazy.
  • My LO seems to forget how to latch to my left side as well. All of a sudden too! Idk of he's just being lazy or what.

  • @bbnmama2012 while it DOES get easier (I promise) I still find myself having to plan a lot more. Like yesterday when I didn't check the traffic so instead spent 40 minutes in standstill traffic with a hungry baby because I thought "oh I'll just feed her when I get there in 15". I started getting into a groove at a little over a month with feeding and napping. Good luck, it's so frustrating.
