NPR lets talk boobies

One of my best friends mom recently found out she has breast cancer. I found out when I travled down to Texas to visit (two weeks ago). Well, they just found out how bad it really is. She has stage 4 breast cancer. Five to ten years if she responds well to treatments, but ultimately, there is no cure. You know the saying, "only the good die young", while that may not always be true, it is in this case. She is an amazing woman who really needs thoughts and prayers.

.oral of the story,

Ladies, please get checked regularly. Don't wait until it's too late to do something

Re: NPR lets talk boobies

  • I am so so sorry to hear this, that is heartbreaking. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. I agree, women should get checked regularly. I also think that insurance companies need to step up and make mammograms available earlier to women...as the daughter of a survivor I am told I can go starting at 35. More and more women are diagnosed earlier than that. I will send thoughts and prayers out for your friend, I hope she has a great cancer hospital nearby that she will be treating at and I hope she does not give up hope - none of us have an expiration date stamped on our feet!

  • She has a great team that she is working with, she will start hormone therapy tomorrow. Crazy enough, she got mammograms regularly, this one they detected in an MRI, she thought something was wrong and said "you need to check these out, like yesterday" and bada bing bada boom.
  • Did they say why they were not detected in the mammogram? That is really scary. I am glad she pushed them to test further.
  • Agreed! I will start annual mammograms in 2 years when I hit 30. My mother is now on her second bout of breast cancer and it has now spread into her bones and lymph system. Best case scenario, she'll have a few more years left. I hate cancer. I know how contrite that sounds, but I truly hate it. A good reminder for every women, even young women, get checked, check yourself. Sorry about your friends mom @KristinaD217
