Determining sex with MaterniT21 was wrong?

ok so FTM here and had the MaterniT21 test done a few weeks ago and found out the baby is healthy and that he is a boy. I know this is going to sound silly but I had a dream last night that the test was wrong and I actually had a baby girl. Just wondering if someone did the test and found later out that they were actually having a baby of the other sex.

  • The Cell Free DNA tests are extremely accurate at determining the baby's sex. The test detects the fetal chromosome in your blood. Y chromosome, it's a boy, no Y, it's a girl. It's more accurate than ultrasound because there is no visual interpretation. Either there is a Y chromosome or there isn't. And congratulations! Boys are amazing, they love their Mommas so much. We have a 2 yo boy and just found out we are having another boy. :)

  • First, congrats on the healthy baby! I'm also a FTM so I haven't been in that situation, but according to an old wive's tale (everyone loves those!), if you dream about a baby being a girl, you end up with a boy and vice versa. I'm also pretty sure those blood tests are mega-accurate, but I am curious to see if the results are confirmed at your anatomy screening!
  • From research I've done, it can only be wrong if you had a vanishing twin this pregnancy (very rare). If that isn't the case then you will have your healthy baby boy.

  • The test found Y chromosomes in your blood. So unless you are a male, there is definitely a baby boy inside of you. Congrats!!

I know of someone who it was wrong for. They were told girl and painted the nursery and were all excited. Then they had their 20 week AS and were told boy. It is rare but it does happen.
  • I had the same test done. It's a boy and I'm also a ftm. It says in the paperwork that it is a 98% accurate test. I have a sonogram in a cpl weeks and they will be looking to confirm. But she said basically there is no room for error unless you carry a male hormone. Which is very rare. Anyways good luck. It's a boy!

This is why when I get my test results back I'm not going to tell anyone until I get my 20 week u/s. I would have to visually see it as well.

I had a friend who was told girl and they had a 20 week ultrasound... Tech said girl. When it came to the birth... It was a boy!!!! I couldn't imagine. She said he had to live with a pink nursery...
