Sunnyside up?!

Has anyone heard of this term before? Apparently it's when baby faces outward instead of inward when you give birth.. a lady was telling me how she bruised her tail bone and another friend she knew broke her pelvic bone from having to deliver a "sunnyside up" baby.

    Yes, a friend delivered her baby sunny side up and fractured her tailbone. DD1 was presenting sunny side up but the doctor was able to turn her before she was delivered.

    Yep, my first was delivered this way. I didn't break anything, but it took longer to push her out which I hear is common. I pushed for 3.5 hours. On the upside, the doctor said I tore very minimally most likely due to the length of time pushing. My muscles in lower back were very sore after delivery, but I figured that was from being in the push position for so long.

    My dd was born Sunnyside up. I had horrible back labor because her head was on my spine. I was sure I was never going to walk again. They take up more room coming out and ate often bruised because of the pressure. I survived. It wasn't ideal buy it could have been worse. She came out perfectly healthy. This one I have been asking about which way he is facing because he is bigger so I'm scared he won't fit if he is the other way. Usually if they know they are Sunnyside up they can try and rotate them.

    My daughter was born sunny side up (the medical term is occiput posterior, or OP) - she flipped that way right before I started pushing, so I pushed for almost 3 hours. I did need a small episiotomy but nothing major. It was exhausting, but I had already been in labor for nearly 24 hours so that was a reason too! No difference in recovery for me, just maybe a bit more sore for a few days.

    There are a ton of positions you can do and things you can bring to relieve the back labor. I know is weird but a rolling pin or tennis balls to help massage your back.

    I was born sunny side up. Mom said labor was horrible :-\

    My daughter was born this way. They tried to turn her beforehand but my current ob said really all it does is turn the head. If their back is towards yours that's most likely the way to deliver. Labored for 29 hours - 6 of which was pushing. So exhausting. But no breaks just small tears. She was 7.15 and they said delivering face up is equivalent of a 10+ lb baby. As I heard it was difficult to get around the bone so as I was pushing she was sliding back down and couldn't quite get through. When they started talking about a csection I was determined not to have one and really pushed harder. That worked. Her head was very cone shaped but it was very temporary. Ask your nurse or midwife to try different laboring positions, a massage down there to loosen muscles and good luck!! I'm sure baby and you will be perfect!

    My first was positioned this way and I wouldn't dialate past a 4 and it ended in an unplanned csection after many many hours of labor.

    It can cause back labor! Because baby's skull is on your spine, ouch. Check the website SpinningBabies. Getting on your hands and knees several times a day and making sure you sit properly will help encourage baby to turn to a more optimal position. If you sit a certain way it's much more uncomfortable for baby to lay sunny side up so they will turn. Anyway HTH! I'm trying to encourage my own little one to not be facing outward and so far she's staying ROA (the site explains what that means).

    Yup! I attempted to deliver DS2 vaginally. He started to become distressed and I was taken for a csection. He was sunny side up and attempting to come out crooked... As well as being almost 10 pounds. I don't think anything was working in my favor there!
