My LO is about to be 3 weeks old & I've been reading up on scheduling/routines for newborns. I have to go back to school at 6/7 weeks, & I know daycare is on a routine & it'll help her transition to there better (fingers crossed). I've seen a lot about BabyWise ideas & wake, eat, play, nap schedule. Anyone started/tried this yet or are you just winging it?
*I'm still winging it & feeding/napping on her schedule within 2-4 hour rules. & I won't start any thing until 4 weeks, personally.
Re: BabyWise/Sleep Scheduling
We did the same thing with our daughter and she started sleeping in 6-9 hours stretches in her 9th week. That said, every kid is different... And will stretch that sleep when they are ready. My son is almost give weeks and is going about four hours between feedings at night.
The books are very interesting, research-based, and they make sense to DH and me on all fronts. Our ped. at church recommended them to us and is also friends with the authors.
DD1 was sleeping through the night and happily on a schedule by 6-7 weeks (though we started the process late with her). It was so helpful to have something to follow and not feel like I was winging it all the time.
From what I've read online about it, its parent led, so baby gets used to "going down" for a nap. I really love this idea. DH is all for the crying it out idea, but I feel that we are WAYYY to early for that right now, so from what I've read-that's the only thing I am iffy on for her age. Otherwise, the schedule/plans seem worth the effort. I wanted to start a nap a day in the crib now.
To each their own with parenting. Lord knows it's hard enough to figure out & do what's best for you & your family!
We do need to work on a schedule during the day. But I can handle anything if she keeps up with her evening schedule.
And I think some daycares will let the babies stay on their own schedule and let them sleep and eat on demand. The one that was at my school let the infants do that, which made me feel a little better.
