Eczema

My LO has developed eczema and I'm so stressed. I use Cetaphil per Drs recommendation but it does not seem to help. Any suggestions?

Re: Eczema

  • Coconut oil has been helping my LO eczema

  • Thanks, I will try that.
  • I used Aveeno oatmeal bath for my DS & Aquafor as a moisturizer. The pediatrician told me to "dap" dry him and apply the moisturizer while he's still damp. Moisture is key
  • Thanks for sharing this info
  • My daughter has it as well aquaphor healing ointment has worked wonders.
  • Excema could be triggered by something you are putting on his body or in his body. So don't forget to examine his diet.

My oldest is 6 years old now. She was born with eczema. For years I tried the different lotions, creams, and anything else the doctor prescribed. Nothing worked. I finally went to a dermatologist who told me to give her a three minute showers (sitting in water for a bath causes the skin to become dry) with sterile soap (soap used at hospitals to clean patients). Make sure her nails are always cut short (itching can cause the skin to break and bleed, which can cause infection). And lastly look at her diet.
She now only showers 3/4 times a week. I cut her nails at least once a week.
For her diet I decided to take out dairy made with cow's milk, like ice cream. I waited 2 full weeks because it takes two weeks for milk to fully leave your system. We started seeing the redness going away, but her skin still feels ruff. Just to see if it was the cow's milk causing the eczema to flair up, I gave her a cup and within a few hours her skin was red and she was complaining it itches.
We have switched her over to non-dairy, she drinks almond milk and non-dairy ice cream.
Btw one doctor told me she would grow out of it, which is not the case because it runs in my family. My mom and grandma suffer. And fyi there is no cure.
I hope I helped you at least a little in finding an answer. We went to many doctors and tried many things.
One more thing I thought of that was use on her skin is coconut oil. The raw found in the cooking aisle with the other oil. I believe the brand name is Spectrum.

My little guy has skin issues as well. Cradle cap along with what appears to be eczema on various parts of his body (stomach, arms and ankles)... our pediatrician has us giving him a bath every day of the week. 2-3 days with Selsun Blue (use on head AND body) and the rest of the days no soap, just a soak for the moisture. Then we lotion him up and use a hydro-cortisone ointment where ever there is redness twice daily. His skin has cleared up wonderfully! The oatmeal powder from Aveeno is nice too! We use that every once in a while :)
