OT question: you guys are all so cute with your bumps. I have a bump but I've also gained A LOT in my arms and legs. I didn't work out much before my pregnancy, but if I were to try doing some arm and leg exercises, would it help/make a difference? Will my body burn fat at this point? I also have a lot of back fat. I'm just doughy all over now :(

Exercising your muscles will make a difference, and so will watching what you eat. If you are eating all the "food porn" then your not going to see much of a result. Also remember you are going to have some water weight and swelling with pregnancy. If you do start working out keep it light (since your just starting) and nothing that stresses on your back. Also check with your doc to see what they recommend.
Urgh, I was afraid I'd have to start eating healthier...haha.

I've definitely kind of let my eating habits and activity level fall by the wayside, and it's shocking how quickly your body changes shape, so I definitely want to get it under c control for the last 20 weeks as much as I can. Thank you!
Eating is (unfortunately) like 70% of fitness. You can workout every day, but if your diet is bad no one would even know. So try to eat healthier foods and make better choices. I am so hungry right now it's crazy, so even though I'm eating a lot, I just make sure it's healthy stuff (with the occasional splurge).

Lastly, remember that you can't target fat loss. So doing arm and leg exercises may not make your arms or legs any leaner; actually it may have the opposite effect if you begin to build muscle under your fat (it won't be anything dramatic though and having muscle is always better than not as this will help your metabolism).

So definitely chat with your OB and at the very least start walking! It's great low impact exercise.

In general, you shouldn't start a new exercise program during pregnancy without getting the ok from your doctor first. They may have some restrictions specific to you and can help you determine what is a healthy rate for you to lose fat.
ETA: forgot to specify - during pregnancy
I actually see my OB tomorrow so I'll definitely see what they say!

FWIW, I had my a/s today. Everything with baby was great, but I got the stink eye for not exercising. I exercise 0% I really hate it. My doc told me to do prenatal yoga. I can do that. Just the thought of cardio makes me hot.
I wouldn't touch cardio with a seven foot pole right now! I'm hot and miserable just walking around.

@Ceridwen77 I went through a clean eating phase and felt amazing cutting out everything processed, and it made such a huge difference. Doing that while pregnant though makes me feel queasy. Salads and veggies and protein sound awful :( I do need to suck it up though.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I didn't mean to AW all over the HDBD thread! :)

In one of my books it says pregnancy yoga is great. It also says swimming is too and water aerobics because they are low impact, the water will help support the weight of a baby belly, and are one of the few exercises you can start at any point in pregnancy.

Talked to my doctor today, she confirmed I can do pretty much any form of exercise (aside from horseback riding, cliff jumping, etc lol) as long as my heartrate stays around 140! Weight lifting included. I'm excited!

That's awesome!!! You'll feel so much better once you get into a routine. There's so many exercises you can even do at home just using your own body weight. I've been running 4-5 miles, swimming, water aerobics with the old people at my pool haha, walking my neighborhood full of hills, and helping my gf each Zumba too when I can get there. I always wanna pass on working out and force myself to go and never regret it. You'll be fine girl! And I know what you mean about feeling like you're gaining weight in your thighs, that's always been my weak spot, even when I was training for a competition. Pain in the booty! Good luck! ;)
