My OBGYN offered induction at 39 weeks IF I'm dialted some on my own. She offered this at my very first doctors appointment. I've seen some other posts bashing this idea and let me explain first! I have no medical reason to be induced however, this is baby number three in 4 years for us. I live right at an hour and a half away from the hospital. (There are other hospitals between but NONE I would trust to deliver a baby) and baby number two came EXTREMELY quick. We were at the hospital for a total of 22 minutes before she was born. No time for epidural or even to sign in. Lol we were in the delivery room for 3 minutes therefore my doctor is afraid this baby will come quick as well and we won't have time to get there. I WAS induced with my first for medical reasons and it wasn't like the horror stories I've heard? It went very smoothly and was fairly simple (as simple as labor can be anyways) so I'm just wanting some opinions..? Even if you think inductions are a bad idea, please say so kindly.
Re: Inductions opinions..?
You and your ob have reasons for why induction might be the best route for you at 39 weeks. That wasn't the case for the other post, or at least that wasn't what was shared.
I kind of wish an induction would be offered, but even if it was I don't think I will even make it to 39 weeks. This kiddo just might be born on the side of the road!
I already know I'll be induced bc of being high risk with high BP. Even if I had a perfect pregnancy, I would want an induction bc I need to plan ahead for someone to watch my 2.5 year old DD. All of my family in the area works at the same times and I feel horrible that someone is going to have to take off to watch her. Luckily though, my midwife and I have discussed this and plan on inducing at 38 weeks exactly which will be a Thursday in the evening. So my mom who is planning on coming up from 5 hours away will only have to take off one day as she doesn't work on Fridays. Since my induction with DD started a Monday night and she was born Tuesday morning I'm preparing for the quick delivery again.
When there are other children involved you have to plan for their care. Waiting to go into labor and scrambling to find someone who is available at the moment you go into labor to watch them would stress me out!
