Are you ladies still taking all the pills you took while pregnant? I asked the pediatrician about what I'm taking/was taking, and he basically dismissed the question.
I'm taking iron with a Vitamin C pill, hypothyroid meds, and I've sort of stopped taking my pre-natal vitamins (which I was religious about during pregnancy) and magnesium. LO takes a Vitamin D pill every day (dissolvable, so I just pop it in his mouth before nursing).

I'm taking iron tablets - I was mildly iron deficient during pregnancy and I lost a lot of blood after delivery. Once my blood count comes back up I'll go back on my prenatal vitamins to support breast feeding.
After I ran out of my expensive whole foods prenatal vitamins after the birth I continued with a cheaper prenatal I had, and when that runs out I plan to return to the regular women's multivitamin I was taking before getting pregnant. Now that I'm not pregnant anymore I'm not as picky about having the finest all natural, organic ingredients or whatever.
I was not taking anything else while pregnant but after the birth I was prescribed a blood thinner I have to give myself once a day by injection. I hate it! It really depresses me to do it. I have to inject it under my belly fat and sometimes if I don't do it right it hurts:( the reason I'm on it is to prevent blood clots since I can't be as active until my pelvis heals:(
I take my prenatal most of the time, and I should still be taking my iron buy I forget that most days (its harder to find the window with which to take it. Anytime I'm an hour apart from other foods or calcium I'm usually in the middle of feeding and thus are distracted, after feeding when I have a baby asleep on me, or when baby and I are both asleep)
Still taking prenatals at week 5 pp for breastfeeding. I was taking magnesium and iron for my restless leg during pregnancy but stopped those last week. Synthroid as always.
I'm not taking anything. They told me to take my prenatals for 4 weeks pp, but I only took one lol. Oh well
So I got one of those bottle sterilizers at my baby shower and I ended up using it all of maybe 2 days and it broke. So baby is approaching 4 weeks old and I still sterilize bottles/nipples after each use (I've been boiling them, which is time consuming) and I'm still boiling the nursery water (which originally I wasn't going to, but one the jug it says that the FDA recommends to boil the water because it's not sterile)...so I have been doing this every day for almost 4 weeks. Some of my mommy friends say they never even sterilized their bottles or anything, so I wanted to see what you ladies did or are doing? When is it okay to stop sterilizing and just hand wash or pop in the dishwasher?

Oh wow girl! I never understood why we need to sterilize the bottles to begin with. I guess that's my FFFQ! it's not like you need to sterilize other food containers you buy. I just don't get it. Maybe i'm wrong but I feel like it's just to cover manufacturer's a$$'s?
I did some of the bottles after I read something about sterilizing on one of the packages but I don't think I did them all. I put them through the dishwasher before first use. Now we soak them in a bowl of soapy water after use and rinse off. Then run through the dishwasher once a week or so.
We sterilized the bottles once when we bought them and then we just soak and wash with soap/water. My sister had one of those dr brown sterilizers with one of her kids and passed it on to us. I use it maybe once or twice a week. Mainly bc we have it but it's kind of a pain. For water, we boil it. I don't even drink the tap water in our area.
I am not trying to be culturally/geographically insensitivity but I go to Asia for work and visit manufacturers of dental products (instruments, gloves, etc.) and believe me, you will want to sterilize your products - particularly toothbrushes.
Nursery water comes in a gallon jug that supposedly you buy for mixing formula and stuff. It's in a jug just like purified drinking water is. But since it says it's not sterile then I could have just been boiling our city tap water and it would be the same thing pretty much. It's probably just another good way for companies to make money lol. I suppose I could stop sterilizing bottles and everything everyday. It seems a bit excessive lol. Thanks ladies
I boiled / sterilized my bottles and pump parts before first use. Now after each use I rinse them with super hot water (for real, steam is coming off the water - I have a very good water heater) and once a day soak them in super hot soapy water. I do not use nursery water to make the formula either (nobody in healthcare told me to and neither did the formula instructions), I use my tap water.
I rinse my pump parts in hot soapy water once a day, I keep them in the fridge in a ziplock bag in between uses (from kellymom) and then I sterilize them in the Medela quick steam bags like every other day, when I'm throwing her pacifiers and bottles in there as well. Very easy and saves my sanity.

@mcknzzee Nursery water is just bottled water with fluoride in it (from my understanding). My doc has us mix bottles with it because we have a well instead of a city water connection.
Oh, I'm glad to see these responses. I wash bottles and pump parts in warm soapy water after each use. I sterilize in the Medela microwave steam bags about twice a week, but I was feeling guilty that I wasn't sanitizing enough. Glad to see I'm basically doing what everyone else is!
It's the Omega 3 fatty acid found in fish oil. But you can get plain DHA if you have fish burps. Research shows it helps prevent bone loss in breastfeeding moms, besides the other benefits. Breast feeding leeches calcium from your bones and can cause up to 3% bone loss.

Do you rinse at all between uses?
I finally ordered additional pump parts so that I'm not having to wash them after every use but love the fridge idea.
@katyqv nope. If there's a bunch of milk on the flange I'll rinse it but I just throw it right in a bag and zip it up. Cleaning the parts in between was making me not want to pump...

We use bottled purified water that we use for drinking too. We've never boiled our water. We have yet to sterilze any of our bottles or parts. We have dr brown bottles and I soak them in super hot soapy water every day and rinse in hot water (steam is coming from our water too!)

I throw everything in a bin of soapy water and let it soak. Then once a day everything gets a turn in one of the madela microwave bags
I boil/sterilize the bottles and pump parts once a day. I just boil water while I'm washing the parts with soap and hot water then just throw them in the boiled water.
I boil the water I give her baths with and that's a big pain cause I have to wait for it to cool down. I just don't trust the tap water in my area
1. I sterilize everything before first use but after that I wash in hot soapy water and then sterilize probably every other day in the Medela microwave bags. We use water that goes through our fridge filter for our formula bc DH is nervous about tap water for no real reason.
2. I'm not bf-ing so I stopped prenatals. I'm gonna ask the doc at my pp checkup what to take now - I assume a multivitamin, but I want advice on if I should take ones with iron since I had blood loss.
I sterilize bottles and pump parts in a microwave sterilizer from Born Free. If I remember I'll sterilize every other week. Other than that I'll just wash in hot soapy water.
My FFFQ: As a STM I should know this but... Is a baby no longer considered a newborn at 12 weeks or at the 3 month mark?
@CillyMama how much lecithin do you take? My LC recommended it because of my frequent clogged ducts but she didn't give any other info. Also I thought after a month they weren't a newborn? I could be wrong!

The dishwasher sterilizes all the dishes anyway, so no need to sterilize separately, in my opinion. If you have the dishwasher on heat dry it gets hot enough to sterilize everything. That's what we do for our home brewing equipment, and it is VERY important to have everything completely sterilized otherwise the beer will taste terrible. All of our batches have turned out perfectly.
My question is about my electric breast pump. I have a Medela Pump in Style Advanced if it matters. There is a "let down" button. The cycle starts with rapid shallow pumps, then after 2 min it changes to long, drawn out pumps. But the "let down" button lets you start the second phase earlier or later. I see milk start to dribble out of my nipple pretty quickly after turning the breast pump on, so I have been hitting the "let down" button then to start the second phase, but I wonder if there are any advantages to letting the first phase continue longer? 2 minutes seems like a long time, does it really take 2 minutes to start the milk flowing sometimes?
Once your baby starts sleeping through the night, or at least taking less feedings at night, do you have to pump during those missed feedings to keep your supply up? Does your body adapt to the new schedule?

For some it could take 2 minutes. I know when I pump at certain times of day it takes me awhile for things to start. When I watched the medela pump in style video the let down button gets things flowing more "efficiently".
@heidiiwa I use the let down button in the middle if I finish one bottle because I find once I take it off my boob it never quite goes as fast. But it doesnt take me 2 minutes for my milk to flow. But I think each person is different. I take my prenatal vitamins and calcium since I heard that unless I drink 4 glasses of milk a day bf can take the calcium from my bones.
not really a flamable topic, more of just a question that i dont know where else to post. do any of you guys have strangers touching your LO in the carseat when out and about? how do you keep it from happening? anyone make a sign explaining not to touch their faces/hands? im really not good at conflict and want to stop the possible issue.

I never sterilized a bottle and this is #2. Hot, soapy water every time. Our dishwasher left a film so we always hand wash.
Thanks for all the helpful responses!
