I've had a few people tell me they had the uppababy vista and loved it. I was doing some research on strollers tonight and saw the price tag! I'm not trying to sound ignorant but there would be no way my DH would ever agree to spending this and I think I would be embarrassed to put it on my registry!
That being said if money was no object I would totally buy it.
Re: Do people really buy $800 strollers?
We've had friends who bought cheaper ones that broke often so by the time they were on kid #2 they had spent the same amount plus the hassle of broken strollers.
I can't fathom spending $800 on a stroller or letting anyone else!
I can see however for some if you are just starting out your family and plan to use it for multiple children the price can be justified. I had a graco stroller with my son and a jeep jogger and they both lasted as long as I needed them too. This will be our last baby and we thought about splurging on a lighter stroller in the 300 range but I haven't made a final decision yet
That being said, my husband and I wanted a bugaboo (after research I knew it was the one) and I looked to find one on Craigslist. Which I did and only paid $200 for it. We are the third owners and it doesn't look like it had been used ever. But, I totally would have saved the money to buy a stroller that I wanted because I am going to be using it a lot and for multiple children.
We registered for the Uppababy Cruz, after humming and hawing over that or the City Mini GT. Our stroller options were narrowed to those 2 due to a number of factors.
1) My DH is really tall, like REALLY tall... and there is a chance he will be staying home with Baby. He also had a major knee reconstruction surgery, so should have the most extendable handle to push LO around in. Otherwise, his back will be toast. We looked at other strollers. Graco, BOB, Peg, none of those had handles any where near high enough for DH to use more than 1 block.
2) Like a PP, we live in a city and rely in transit. The narrow wheelbase of those 2 strollers aid in getting on busses, and streetcars. We have one car, which will result in a number of errands being run with just the stroller, so storage is what tipped us towards the Cruz.
3) I believe in spending money on what you use daily, that will bring ease and enjoyment in your life. And so we will purchase the stroller ourselves if not gifted. The crib and nursery furniture, swing, play yard, tummy time mat, baby monitor and number of other things are hand me downs/garage sale finds. A stroller with many moving parts, that will be used daily for 2 plus years is an investment in transportation for me DH and LO.
So yes OP, people do buy $800 strollers. At least we will... it is the best choice for us on the market. Believe me, this was a huge struggle for frugal DH to wrap his head around. Once I was able to acquire other items at little to no cost, it freed up budget for the "luxury" item.
5 - IUIs, 3 - IVF retrievals, 2- failed transfers (fresh, and frozen), PGS on second IVF resulted in 1 perfect emby, and DD.
3rd IVF w PGS resulted in 3! perfect embys. 1st transfer - Sep 2017 2 more on ice.
I know that uppababy just came out with the 2015 version...so we found a new 2014 (including the bassinet that LO will use in our room for the first few months) online for $599. Snugglebugz.ca .I think it's money well spent.
