North of Atlanta, Marietta area! What about y'all?

@egraves4 Hello fellow GA girl! North Atlanta area here too!

  • My daughter's name will be Hanne, pronounced Hannah, but it's not a made up spelling. It's my grandma's name and as she is from Denmark, that is the Danish way of spelling that name.
  • Knew of a couple who named their baby Phisten. Yeah...say that out loud.
Gets worse. Their last name was Purdy. The mom's name was Tether, so the baby never had a chance I guess. :-S

  • @egraves i will be at Hamilton, its the only place my Dr. delivers, I had DS there and it wasn't bad.
  •  My husbands grandfather is determined that we are going to name our child Christey this has never nor will it be one of the names I consider.  We have had our names picked out since before we got married.   We agreed on two per gender and they are all family names. My husband doesn't have the heart to tell his grandfather no he told him we would consider it.
Two Girl Names: Evie Claire and Anne-Elizabeth

  • I work at a pediatrics office and some bad ones that I've heard are...
    ESPN (pronounced espin)
    Abcde (pronounced ab-suh-dee)
Twins named Ragina and Vagina (pronounced like Ragina except with a V)
    La-Da (you pronounce the DASH)
    Ta-Da (you pronounce the DASH)
The list goes on and on people!! Name your kids something normal!! Hahaha

  • I'm trying to think of the name my husband's former best friend named their daughter, but it's not coming to me. It was awful. There were way too many unnecessary letters (I think like 3 x's), apostrophe and like one vowel in the entire name...but when you pronounced it, it sounded like a pretty common girl name in my area.

Actually, five of those names are found in almost every "bad name" discussion on the bump, and some of them are known urban legends. There's always someone claiming they know them or that their aunt's cousin's uncle's teacher's gynecologist told them about patients with these names one time, but most of the time it just isn't true.

  • I have a friend who is a speech therapist and she treated a little girl named Playawanna. They called her play for short. Her sisters name was Bikiniwanna. Those are the names on their birth certificates anyhow.
  • I work with a girl whose name is Enuf, she was the 5th girl and her sisters all have normal names the oldest starts with A, then B, then C, and D. She goes by Nuffy and carries it well, poor kid.
  • My SO was named after his mom's favorite soap opera... The Colby's.
  • @ss456 Ya I'm sure he would have, and so would I! Still makes me mad though! I've never even had kale lettuce in my life ha. Like I said I didn't even know it was a lettuce! Ha :/

One of my best friends brothers name is Cale and I've never thought of it being like the lettuce...

  • I have met a girl named Kandi with daughters named Dazi and Bambi. I've never had the heart to point out Bambi was a boy, but I suppose that's the least of the concerns. They're great girls, all of them, but I can't help but to shake my head.
  • I went to middle school with a boy named Bud. His last name was Weiser. He was a troublemaker and was always getting called to the principals office over the intercom. They ended up just asking for Mr. Weiser to come to the office bc every time they'd say his full name everyone would LOL

A friend just had a little boy and named him Klaussen. I think it's HORRIBLE!!
  • My father in law insisted with our first child, that he should have a very traditional irish name, even though my husband is only half irish, and our child is only 1/8th Irish. But, I wanted to make him happy, so I said we would consider it and asked what his suggestions were. I am not kidding he said, with a serious face, "Aengus" which is pronounced like "angus" the beef. luckily my husband piped in right away and said, "I am not naming my child after a Burger King burger." So that was the end of that. We went with Colton.

Wait... If your husband is 1/2 irish, doesn't that make your son 1/4 irish?

  • @inomniaparatus yes, you are right! I guess it's too early, and my brain isn't fully functioning. I meant to say that my husband is 1/4 irish, and our son is 1/8 irish, not that my husband is 1/2 irish, and that we had some weird conception thing involving others and turned our kid into 1/8 irish!

  • My husband is a godfather to a Riley & a Rylee! Popular name here in PA evidently.. Not my choice either but they love it
  • I work for a county children's hospital and have heard those names too. The la-sha gets us every time she comes in.
  • I used to cut hair and I had this little boy named Skiddy. It was his birth name, not a nickname. It was a family name passed down.
