Hernia??

edited July 2015 in May 2015 Moms
anyone else's LO have a bully button that is sticking all the way out? I'm kinda worried that it might be a hernia.
I'm taking LO to his pediatrician tomorrow but I was wondering if any other mommys were going thru this too.

Update:
His belly button is fine it's just an umbilical hernia and it should close on its own eventually glad to know I'm not the only mama going through this its also a huge relief that he'll be fine after all thanks for sharing your expirences also girl!!

Re: Hernia??

  • I've had a few patients with an umbilical hernia. It's soft and it'll kind of move in and out with exertion, like when he's having a bowel movement. It's generally not a huge medical concern - you can still do tummy time and everything just like you would if he didn't have it. Most resolve on their own in a year or so when the tummy muscles get stronger.

  • Do you have a picture? My LO was more pronounced, looking like on "outtie" when she was younger but now at 10 weeks, looks much more like an "innie".
  • My 9 week old has an umbilical hernia. Her belly button not only sticks out, it is bruised looking and you can feel the hernia when you touch it. I can push it back in and make it look like a normal belly button for a little but then it pops right back out. Her dr said it will close on its own by the time she is three and if it doesn't they will surgically close it but won't do anything until she is three

My 6 wo has one too. Ped said it would most likely go away by a year, and if not then, they would operate at 2. It's recently started to "deflate" and become not so solidly "out". It kinda droops.
