So, this weekend my SO and I were having sex, and I began bleeding a lot. It ended up just being a ruptured blood vessel in my cervix which was no big deal, but bc of the incident I had an emergency ultrasound this weekend. I'm 33 weeks pregnant at the moment. So I had a follow up appointment with my family doctor today, and he informed me that at the ultrasound they found an 11 mm cyst in the third ventricle of baby's brain. He didn't tell me much about it and told me not to worry and that he wants a second opinion before we go ahead further with everything so I'm waiting to get an appointment at Vancouver's women and children's hospital. Not one to want to be left in the dark, of course I have googled it and seen that it can mean some pretty terrible things. Just wondering if anybody else had any experiences like this or information.. Trying not to worry until we know for sure what's going on.
Re: *update* Nervous momma..
Also, Google is not your friend! Unless you want a panic attack, best to stay away until you have more info on your specific situation..
So, had an hour or so U/S yesterday. Also met with a geneticist and a few other doctors. They cyst is there in baby's brain, it's a CSP cyst though, not a CPC cyst (which are the ones that usually disappear. CSP is not very common, the doc in Van said he only sees about 4 cases a year) Other than that, absolutely everything on the baby's brain and body is looking perfect, and I'm right where I should be for 34 weeks.
So 85% of the time, these cysts have no effect on baby's development, but it increases my risk of a chromosome defect to 15%. So, DH and I both got blood work done, and I got an amniocentesis done yesterday. Should get the results if it's an extra chromosome in the next couple days, won't know if it's a missing half a chromosome for another 2 weeks.
It could also be a metabolic disorder, but we are at same risk as everyone else (3%), it could just be an indicator. There is no testing for that until after the baby is born, though.
Usually these defects are associated with other abnormalities though, so I have high hopes that we're in the 85%. Doc also said this shouldn't have any affect on baby in the long run if everything comes out normal. *fingers crossed*
Still haven't gotten the results back on whether it could be a chromosome deletion though, that should still be another week or so. But so far, things are looking good for LO!
Things are looking good as far as tests can tell, but we're not out of the woods yet. There are things they can't tell until baby is actually born.
Going back for a follow up U/S in a couple weeks to monitor the cyst.
Again, thanks so much for all of the support! LO appreciates it
