Trying to Get Pregnant

Well if all the cool kids are doing it...

I've been lurking these boards for a few weeks now and I've noticed a lot of intro posts, so I figured I might as well do one too!

My husband and I have been married for exactly 17 days. We originally were going to wait 6 months to a year to try to have a baby but we realized we don't want to wait. We're ready to start a family. We're 28 years old and live in Lincoln, NE. I had my IUD removed yesterday and my doctor said we could start trying right away. I'm temping and using FF and waiting for my copy of TCOYF. H and I DTD last night and he was like "so that did it, right? Now you're pregnant?" Soooo I may be making him read TCOYF as well.

I'm excited for all the support and the occasional smackdown when I go crazy symptom spotting!

  • Ha ha!  That's hilarious!!  My hubby doesn't understand why I only have 1 shot each month to get knocked up.  He thinks if the RE can give me drugs to make me ovulate better, I should get drugs to make be ovulate more than once a month.

    Welcome!

It's okay, my H thought the IUD string would poke him in the penis.  Dude, I know you think you're THAT big, but that's pretty unlikely.

  • Welcome :-h
  • Welcome!!!

My DH has said similar things! Like right after BDing, he'll say "so do you think there's a baby in there now?" We watched the Great Sperm Race together and that helped him understand things a lot more. :)

  • This gave me a great giggle at work while on a conference call! Good luck!
  • Welcome!  I have to say that his thoughts were mine exactly 5 years ago.  I can't believe how much I have learned TTC for half a year it is incredible.

  • My DH thought that at any point throughout the month that I could get pg...I think it is definitely a male attribute
  • I talk to my husband all the time about how it all works. I think he is getting it!! Good Luck!

  • Hahaha I love your DH's response, mine said the same thing I was like look, it's got to be timed out just right. So I try to explain everything out for him since I'm a nurse and he doesn't really get the medical aspect of it all but he's getting there little by little. He always pats my stomach tho and says little things like "take care of my son" and I have to just grin and bare ir bc he doesn't understand how hard it is for me to want this and not be able to give him a baby with the snap of my finger. I love you all for being so supportive and understanding through this whole process because you all know the struggle and it's nice to vent on here!!

I know I've only been around for a bit, but this community seems so welcoming! I am praying I don't have any problems, but I know that if I do, I'll have a great community to help me through it.

  • My DH assumed it was going to be pretty automatic as well.  I don't think he realized that there is  pretty minimal chance during a relatively small window during your cycle of when it can actually happen.  We are on month 3 of TTC so I'm kind of glad that it didn't happen right away because he was all its going to happen the 1st month off BC.

At the same time through some of our conversations, he's actually asked me when its going to be time to be doing the BD.  Its kind of cute.  I try not to mention it much though, I don't want him to feel pressured or anything.  And I'm not big on the BD to begin with, so I'm trying to not make it a big deal.
  • I've just become active after lurking for a bit too :) that is exactly the way my DH would think too lol - love it!

I always thought I would wait 2-3 years and now here I am 1 year and a few months into marriage and I have the fever! When it's time you just know :) good luck!
  • Hello and welcome!

My husband also thought the same way! I knew to expect AF a little more than 1/2 way through on our honeymoon, and DH had this idea of conceiving a baby somewhere in Greece or Italy (thought it would be a fun story), so I explained that it wasn't going to happen cause of "the science" behind it...when AF came, he still had a little pout-fest/pity-party...hahaha
  • My DH thought that at any point throughout the month that I could get pg...I think it is definitely a male attribute
This is SO my DH....he keeps asking me when I can POAS and find out every month too....lol...sometimes it will only be a day or two after BDing for the first time that cycle. I blame him for my POAS addiction. :)

  • Welcome!

MyDH also thought it was pretty instantaneous.  Umm... no.  I tried to explain it to him once before but he wasn't really intersted in the details, he just liked the fact that we'd be having more sex.
  • Hello and welcome! :-h Huge Nebraska Husker fan here! Love going to Lincoln for football games! Good luck to you and your hubby!

  • Haha, my H said something similar a few weeks ago.

I started charting/temping/etc. too and had to explain to him that no, just DTD after PTG doesn't make us pregnant.  There's ~science~ involved.  Lol.

  • When I voiced my concerns about my fertility to DH when we started trying the first time around (which resulted in our DD) he said not to worry because he has "super sperm"...ok hun, I believe you. It actually turned out to be true that time, we'll see what happens this time... I honestly don't know if he understands the science behind it, we've never talked about it.

  • Welcome! My DH is the same as many here - no idea of the science and timing that goes into TTC. I knew most of it in a general sense before, but this board has really helped me learn the details behind the science!

caseyw8784 - funny enough, we are headed to Greece and Italy next month and even I have the corny thought that, if I'm ovulating during that time, it could be a great story to get KU on that trip. Big IF, but your DH isn't alone on that one :)

I do believe that it's a man thing. DH doesn't want to think about the science unless we have issues for a few months...So I just come here and see what you lovelies have to say/think about anything and every thing TTC!

@imrachellea ...My DH also uses the Super Sperm term.
