C section mamas...

my feet feel like there splitting!! This is my second c section, 3rd baby.. But I don't remember this pain. They ache, burn and tingle into my legs... And I got this crazy paranoia about DVT... Probably making everything worse in my head.. But for the first 4 days I had no swelling, now I have balloon feet. They had me on blood thinners for the first 2 days in the hospital.. Anyone else dealing with this?

Re: C section mamas...

  • Yes!!! I had a c section a week ago and a few days later my feet and legs ballooned and feel horrible... I was really taken back by how huge they have gotten... 2 different Drs and numerous nurses told me that it's completely normal and could take a few days to a few weeks to go back to normal :/ (1st c section so I was pretty freaked out easily!)

  • That makes me feel a little better.. My first c section, my feet were already huge before surgery.. So they ballooned after but I was used to it... This time my feet were barely puffy, and now there so swollen! It's painful and scary.. Lol I'm ridiculous.
    Hope you feel better soon!
  • I heard that it is all the fluids leaving your body or something like that haha it happened to me too :)
  • It's so miserable.. How are we supposed to know the difference between normal swelling and blood clot? It needs to go away >.<
  • I'm having the same problem. My thighs are even swollen and it has me freaked out.

    Exactly!!!
Everything from my belly button down ballooned! My kangaroo pouch, and my vagina swelled together.. Very uncomfortable!

  • Is the kangaroo pouch swelling or am I doomed with a big belly and saggy skin? I have it too and it's freaking me out.

Also, my doctor explained it to me that the swelling is very normal and only to be concerned if one leg or one foot swells much bigger than the other. If that is the case it could be a clot issue. I found that to be helpful advice.
  • My coworkers were just telling me about how their legs were swollen after. Would compression socks help? ....Assuming you could get someone to put them on you.
I'm kinda freaked out. CS on Monday.
  • @carlyyo .. It's partially swelling. Partially stretched from having a baby.. It will always be a little bit bigger, but it depends on exercise as well. I'm chubby to begin with, so mine never really went away,

Just expect a lot of swelling.. If you have a lot during pregnancy then it will be worse after. (As the case was with my first c section) this time I didn't have barely any this time so that may be why it feels so miserable.. There much better today as I have kept them up most the day.. Can't win for losing.
  • The more you get up and walk around should help with the swelling. Keeping in mind you just had major surgery and to keep it slow.
  • Yea I was walking all over the place.. And they ballooned so I think I over did it.
  • I had a similar thing happen a few days after my c-section...my feet swelled up like a balloon! I called my doctor and he said to drink a glass or two of Cranberry Juice!! Make sure it is not the fruit cocktail, but real cranberry juice. Sure enough after about an 30-60 minutes, the swelling went down significantly!! As I kept drinking it through the day, the swelling was completely gone.
  • Mine went down a little for 2 days and now so swollen and painful it's ridiculous!
